Hey guys,
Im in Lawton, work at Fort Sill. Originally from South Florida. My friend, and long time drifter convinced me to get into the sport; so I decided to get my first 240, an '89 coupe shell. Here's how the build is going so far.

This is what she looked like when we first got her home. The guy that sold it to me said the engine spun but didn't start. He said it was probably the timing. Well, it wasn't.

We decided to try and figure out what was going on. After a bit of trouble shooting, we figured out that the head gasket was blown. There was foam oil and coolant in the head and also found out that piston 3 had a big enough crack in it to drop a quarter through the cylinder, also the combustion chamber had a giant hole next to the spark plug hole. So we pulled it out, took it all apart and salvaged and cleaned all the re-useable parts. Also got rid of all the extra crap, good thing OK doesn't have inspections.

Went out and found a new engine in better condition. Cleaned it up, got all new gaskets, new chain tensioner kit, and now the head is in a machine shop getting tanked and possibly re-surfaced. When that gets back we'll assemble all working parts and get this puppy fired up and running.

Also decided to strip the valve cover and paint it a nice aged copper color. Also we painted the exhaust manifold and pipe with black high temp paint to give it a cleaner look. Forgot to take pictures though. Trying to get this temporary single cam looking as clean as possible.

In the next two weeks plans(other than get it running well)are to get some coilovers, set of wheels and a welded diff, and taking that hideous body kit off ASAP!! If you know of a local place that does a good job welding, let me know.

Well, thanks for reading! If you're in the area and would like to meet and chill, let me know! We're trying to find some more guys around town.

So, we only had a little bit of time tonight but we got some stuff done, getting close to get this car running.

We got the head back from the Machine shop. They re-surfaced it and cleaned it up and replaced some stud that were missing. They didn't tank it enough(or at all seems like) because we still had a lot of the intake manifold gasket on there. So before we got to wiping it down we got some razor blades and started peeling it off.

The $#!t was on there pretty hard and the razorblades weren't cutting it(no pun intended), so we decided to go 21st century on those bitches and used an electric drill with the scrub pad attachment to "sand" them off and clean the surface nicely. Worked out pretty good.

After all the surfaces were nice and clean we wiped the dust down, used about a can and a half of carb cleaner to make sure it was clean and wiped it down with a clean rag to finish it off.
Right after we threw the head gasket on and slapped the head on. We put the head bolts on(which by the way, whats with the whole torquing on, than more torque, than loosen them off, then torque them back on and torque them tight?)

After the bolts went on, we decided to call it a night. Here is the end result of tonight's work.

Plans for tomorrow are slapping everything else on, the new radiator should come in and it we have time put it back in the car and have it's first crank and hopefully get it fired up.

Thanks for reading.

We fabricated some block off plates out of aluminum for the EGR and the secondary butterflies that we eliminated off the engine.

After the transmission was stabbed we went ahead and dropped it in the car.

Hooked up everything else and we put in all new belts.

Filled it with Engine Oil and Gear Oil. Spun it a few times to pump the oil through. Plugged the spark back and VOILA! WE GOT A RUNNING ENGINE! Super excited. We shot it off after like 10 seconds though. The radiator hoses aren't in yet and we don't have a radiator hooked up yet. So no coolant. Once that comes in, it'll be ready. Than it comes the fun stuff. Wheels, coilovers, welded diff. Thanks for reading! More to come later.

Well, I haven't updated this in a while but not much has happened, me and my friend have been focusing on his 240 since we finished and turns out the bearings were bad. So we're prepping/fixing the rust on the car and painting the bay to make it a comfy home for an SR. We disassembled the front end and next weekend we're going to pull the single cam out. Once everything starts to look nicer I'll post better pictures. Thanks for reading!

UPDATE: We fixed the bearings on the single cam so it atleast moves around until we SR it. God knows how long thats going to last but for now it moves on under its own power. Next, coilovers, wheels and LSD. My friend Shaun is getting new fenders so I will be running his since theyre already pulled and rolled and Im gonna space out and go lowwwwww. This is where she sits now. Fenderless.

So, threw the wheels on and coilovers on. Also all the fancy ebay grade shit inside. Also, its a slow single cam so I needed to throw a bunch of stickers on to make it faster, you know how it is. Heres some picture. Sorry about the shitty/instagram-y quality.
