Twin Turbo V8 S13 Build!!!!

It all started when I bought my first 240 to build a drag car but that car was far to fucked to do anything with so i parted it out and sold the rest of it back to the original owner lol. I purchased my coupe next and yet again got another fucked up car but I modded it still. i got it looking pretty nice then my buddy said he needed a car for his gf so he offered to trade his 240 shell + cash for my coupe. i was like fuck it what do i got to lose i was gonna rip out the motor anyways at least this frame wasn’t fucked.

so we traded cars and on march 1st I was the proud owner of a 240 shell with no suspension and nothing on the car. When I got the car I took no time to waste and got my suspension on (mdu coilovers) and my wheels from my other 240 (xxr006). by the end of the night I had the car sitting on the ground slammed and looking good.

The original plan was to buy my buddy's back up motor for his dragster but i couldn’t afford it. So my next free day me and my buddy Eddie went junkyard hunting for a sbc. We finally got to u pull it and talked to the guys running the place and they said they had just got a chevy truck in that I could possibly pull the motor from. We checked out the motor and it turned over and had compression when we rotated the assembly so the next step was to negotiate the price and get working on pulling the motor. By time the junkyard was closing we had the motor and trans pulled and started loading it into my buddy's van. We got back to the car around five and decided to shoe horn the motor in.

Well we got it in but there was no way in hell that the car was gonna work like that so we just left it there for the night. we started drinking next to the car and we were both starring at the cutoff wheel and we basically said fuck it lets make it fit tonight and we did. The next day Eddie got the motor mounts welded in so the motor was sitting pretty now. I’m gonna skip through the bull shit drama that happened all around this phase. The car ended up at a new location and work continued. i soon acquired more parts that I needed an some that I didn’t. the plan from the start was to TT the SBC but after Eddie showed me the first turbo we both came to the conclusion that a single was enough.

After more motivational and only being 9 days into the build we decided to tackle the next big step, which was the tunnel and god, this is a bitch. We picked up some recycled sheet metal to make the tunnel since I didn’t really care what it looked like. So we bent cut and tacked shit in place and got a pretty wicked looking tunnel.

After a couple more days we started to get the turbo mani's mocked into place. With the size of the turbo we needed lots of exhaust pressure and a short distance of travel for minimal lag so what better place to put it than right in front of the motor. We got more stuff for the car and got a lot of stuff buttoned up and got all the minimal wiring stuff done to start the car. This is where shit started to go downhill, and quickly. We tried starting the car with loading the motor with just the essentials to fire up, spark fuel and air. Well we kept doing it and figured the dist had to be 180 off since it wasn’t firing. Well we re stabbed it and tried starting it and it started to go so we added more fuel. Well when we opened up the throttle to add my fuel the carb backfired. This caught the fuel in the bottle on fire, which was dropped, which caught the car on fire then almost the house. We were able to put the fire out with the water hose. I almost gave up on the car that night but the next day when we looked over it we realized it really wasn’t too bad.

We kept our heads up and kept working. We finished up all the wiring for all the lights and everything for the car to run and drive. We did a pretty epic wire tuck and took out about 20lbs of wiring oh and we cut some holes in the hood to make stuff fit!

So after blowing up the Holset I decided to do my dream setup the TTSBC. Twin 50mm T3/T4 Ebay Turbos LOL! Here it sits now...

i have a few questions as well, how much boost did you end up running on it, and what did it do down the quarter mile? was there a tune on the motor or just stock junk yard engine with a turbo mounted on it? any hp numbers ect? seems like a cool back yard build but im sure alot of us are wondering the same things i asked.

Yes, but I only bought the manifolds online... I picked up the turbos from a local parts distributor.

Yes, the turbo was used, but rebuilt. When my buddy rebuilt it though he put a huge fucking exhaust housing on that most diesels would have a hard time spooling. So I did what any dumbass would do to spool this big of a turbo... I hit it with nitrous :) and bye bye seals lol.

I will answer these when I get official numbers with video and paper documentation... this car probably won't see a 1/4mile since I'm geared for the 1/8th mile... 4.08's and a 3 speed... Carb is built and tuned for boost :)

Its just an old SBC the motor only makes like sub 200hp, but with my cam and Holley 750 it should have been close to 300 and about 450 on the bottle... With the 1bar setup the car should easily make 7xx before the motor blows... but this is all estimations...

Exhaust is dumping through the fenders so it won't be too hard to run those...
Most old SBC's don't run intercooled setups... I'm still thinking about running one but I probably won't since the efficiency gain would be minimal.

I have a custom built carb but it started as a Holley 650 DP and i have an LT1 cam, makes for a decent turbo cam.

There are massive amounts of efficiency to be gained with intercooling at anything over 7 psi. When people say that most v8s don't run intercoolers it's onlybecause a lot of v8 guys are already making 500 whp at 6 psi and call it quits. How much boost are you running? How bad is the driveability with the blow through carb?

Yes like you said over 7psi... And you're right us V8 guys don't need massive amounts of boost.... Ill be running 6psi which is why I'm not going to use an intercooler. I haven't taken the new setup on the street yet...

I had this conversation with a couple of friends last night lol

when we were looking at how we wanted to run the piping we looked at a couple of other old school ttsbc setups and realized that all the setups would eventually have some sort of turbulence somewhere in the setup... after digging through several turbo forums we found that people that y'd there setup instead of meeting on the hat, were more efficient. we figured since both pipe were angled in almost the same direction to a straight shot into the hat that it would create less turbulence than if we were to put two pipes into the hat... if we ran both pipes to the hat we would need to go in something like this

Pay no attention to the welding critics and haters. I've been trying to teach myself welding for the last few years, and boy is it going slow. I'm sick of guys bragging about "their" shop, and about how sick "their" car is after paying somebody else $100 an hour to build them a car. This is the only way you can truely call a car your own IMOP. And if that takes a few booger welds to teach yourself and to own it, then so be it. Nice work, keep it up.

The only reason they aren't "pretty" welds is because we are using a small electric welder with flux, but thats fine because its mild steel. BTW the welds have been cleaned up and wrapped.

i may not know a lot about what i'm doing but the people guiding me on my build have been build high horse power cars since before i was born. The carb was built by one of said advisors and it started as a holley 650 dp

There are slim to no external differences on a carb that any of my pictures would say that my carb is or is not setup for blow through. On my carb my buddy took the time to make a tube for the throttle shafts, but there isn't really anything else to support that my pictures are speaking louder than words.

Sorry I haven't kept yall updated, been running around with my head cut off...

I took the car to Lowered Case whenever that was and it drove awesome on the way there, but then we found the flaw in my cooling system. That spewed when I got there my pressurized system laughed at my half assed hose clamps. After fixing that we found my next problem... since this is suppose to be a track car, I never ran an alternator. Well my battery died and wouldn't charge so the car wouldn't stay on for more than a minute at a time. So currently I'm working out the bugs and I'm waiting for parts to run an alternator. Also blew my daily up so I bought a new one, so money is real tight right now.

Since I'm still low on fundage, I decided to play around with stuff I had laying around and basically gave my car a full interior from hatch cover to dash... I'm still missing a couple little things but it feels like a street car again!

I found another problem with the car in the fueling system... I'm replacing the current pump and regulator with a Walbro 255 and a boost referenced return style pump. While I'm at it, I'm running a MSD 6AL, MSD Dizzy, and new plugs. Should be a lot more peppy after I get done with all the mods... I'll try to keep everyone updated as parts come in...

Ended up not selling the car... Blew the converter on the way to that meet... Re-Did the charge piping with aluminum and got a the Turbonetics carb hat. I used REAL Boost Couplers and T-Bolt Clamps this time :) Still waiting for my Aeromotive FPR and Walbro 255 to get in so I can fix the fueling issue while I'm at it.

I just said my car was on her period since ATF was everywhere. Switching to a T56 or a T5 if I can get the bell housing for cheap.

I've been working on my other project as well so I'm trying to be fair with all three of my cars and the amount of money I throw at them :)
