AFAIK it'll run cleaner than the KA, so it should pass fine. I'm getting ready to register my SR'd coupe though, so I'll let you know how it goes. :p Always make sure your cat is nice and hot before testing though. Makes it more effective.

I'm running around town on demo plates at the moment. :p Car's running lean right now so once I get that handled I'll attempt an emission check.

i have a s14 240sx with a sr swap and i live in the denver as well, it took me a couple tries to pass but you will be able to pass. go in for the first test and see how your results are. i had to replace the cat and used the denatured alcohol trick. hope all goes well!

Old thread, but we can have sr20det in colorado legally? My gf's family live in westminster near denver and we are thinking about moving back there from california. I was thinking about bringing a 240 hatch with sr in it from california.

Colorado Springs doesn't have emissions so most people register their cars here.

Sr motors in general are illegal in the states but u can stilll register them, not a lot of people will know that its a different motor so as long as u keep it quiet and tell them that the motor hasnt been swapped u should be good

FWIW, The emissions station south of Denver on Lipan St. is pretty lax. N/A'd me for not having a smog pump which was cool... New O2 sensor, vac lines, spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter, catalytic converter, half a tank of E85 and instructions to the workers at AirCareCO to drive her gently to keep it out of boost and I passed on low PSI snow tires. Finally have plates after having been driving around on expired California plates for a year.

I heard from a friend Denver does a sniff test, Drive test, under hood inspection and CEL's.. and you have to drive the car a certain speed and engine rpm etc..

it's alot of shit to get past.

its kinda all those things in one... they do a quick visual inspection where they check for your cat, o2, egr/smog pump and check for any CELs. If you have a CEL it's just and "advise" condition, not an automatic fail like in CA. After that they pull your car onto a dyno where they put the sniffer cone behind your exhaust and run the car through the test. It varies the driving condition simulating going from stop to city speeds, then to a stop and then getting up to highway speeds. Once that test is done they pull it up to test the gas cap and you're done. Avg. test time is about 20mins. start to finish.

Some stations are stricter than others. Like I said, the station on Lipan hooked me up, but the one just down in Sheridan tagged me for no EGR and they couldn't verify the serial no. on my cat. for whether or not it was emissions legal. Needless to say, I didn't go back there.

Denver can be rough depending on the jerk that does the test. Some are better than others. You could always register your vehicle outside of the Denver area. Greeley, Buyers, Franktown, Colo Springs, Grand Junction all have different standards and you can get away with alot of mods.
