View Full Version : The "how low do your coilovers go" thread...

i had an idea a while back when i did my write up for my circuit sports suspension parts install. i thought it might be a good idea to start a thread that was dedicated to the height of coilovers (as no one does this in their product reviews anymore). i thought it may help those who are in the market for coilovers make a better and more educated decision on their purchasing (plus they wont get burned by not being able to lower their vehicle to the height they would like). before you start posting pics of your car, there are some examples that need to be follow before anything else. if your post does not follow the below requirements, i will mark it for deletion or editing. please keep any and all discussion to a minimum. this is NOT a thread to post pictures of fitment or how low your frame rails are. if youve posted a review, please post a link to it.

REQUIREMENTS ARE AS FOLLOWS:

• post can contain pictures of front AND rear coilovers laid out on ground with measuring tape next to coilovers with lower mounts set AS LOW AS THEY WILL GO (please make sure your pictures are clean and crisp)
• post can contain a level side shot of your car (this is NOT meant as a wheel fitment thread).
• post MUST contain BRAND, MAKE/MODEL, DATE OF PURCHASE, SPRING RATE, ADJUSTABILITY, VENDOR, PRICE POINT, AND REVIEW THREAD of your coilovers (review is only if youve made one, no biggie if you havent, it just helps).
• post can contain your wheel size, offset and tire size
• post MUST NOT contain more than 2 photos of your car.
• post MUST contain notes about how low your lower mounts are and if youve removed any perches. please note if you can go lower than your pictures show, and if so, by how much.
• post MUST contain notes regarding spring preload. if youve drooped your springs to get the car lower because the lower mounts are maxed out, please note this.
• post MUST contain a link to a review you have done on your coilovers IF you have written one.
• vendors posting in this thread, a side shot of the car isnt 100% required, just pics of the coilovers with measuring tape mentioned above.

so here, i will start the thread (please copy and paste into your reply)...

EDIT: Removed my post. Took the time to help a potentially good thread get started up and get bitched at in PMs for not removing my coilovers and screwing my alignment to take some pictures next to a tape measure.

Good luck.

I like the idea except I don't think anyone is going to take off their coilovers to lay them next to some measuring tape, nor do I think it's important to say where and when you bought them, and how much you payed.

the measuring tape bit shows exactly how low they will drop. different companies use different dampers as well as different mounts and perches. the measuring tape helps eliminate any actual wonder of exactly how low the coilovers will drop the car WITHOUT removing spring preload (which will actually blow your dampers out in a very short time due to them bottoming out in their shafts) or spring perches

the reason for where, when and how much you bought them for is also important. where is for if someone sells a particular coilover setup when another company refuses to. when is because coilover manufacturers change their damper specs at times. this will allow the coilover to drop lower in certain cases. how much is to show a price point to ensure that people are not over paying for something (so a person can get a general idea on how much its going to cost them as well)

NOTES: 12k and 10k Fortune springs are longer than the springs they come with normally. Mounts are touching spring perches front and rear. No Collars Front or Rear. Factory Preload. Front mounts are flipped and modified for camber adjustment. Upgrade to Swift Springs and you could lay frame with the wheels off the ground.

Don't have uninstalled pics that show the range of adjustment sorry.

Cool thread and I would contribute, but Im to lazy to pull my coilover out and measure :P With that said, my Cusco zero2 8k/6k go very low and can tuck 18" rims on 225/40-18 with one collar removed.

If you decide to be a little more reasonable on your requirements ill post up both of my coilover setups. Im not taking off my coilovers though just for a picture.

I agree. There are way too many "requirements". Things like pricing, where you bought them, and the shots with the tape measure are asking a bit much. I do like the idea of the thread though.

if you want to contribute to the thread, then feel free to. but if its just peanut gallery comments, then why bother even saying anything? not being a dick, just being straight forward.

i revived the thread because i got new coilovers. if you wanna post a pic of your car fully dropped, then go ahead. just have a bit more sense and input than saying some dumb shit like "This thread is stupid" because I will happily report it due to making NO contribution to the information being asked for or presented in this thread.

Running R.Y.O. HiMaxII would take the time to do this but its not common enough and a little out of typical zilvia users budget.

good thread though. good information despite what some are saying. there have been plenty more useless threads than this..
