View Full Version : Car shutting off when I make right turns?

Got a question , this is the strangest thing ever, whenever I make right turns the car just shuts off , as soon as I straighten the wheel up the car cranks back up again and runs fine. My first thought was maybe a ignition wire was loose or touching the frame or engine and grounding it out , but I checked that all the way to the fuse box and the ecu and found nothing. I also took the ignition cover off and couldn't find anything that may be loose or touching, and I found nothing there either . If I make left turns it doesn't happen at all. Wondering if anyone has ANY ideas , off the wall or not , cause I'm seriously scratching my head on this one

Is it only during Right turns ??? Might be a fuel starvation.

Yes only during right turns, I ran some seafoam in there in case there was some type of clog. Guess I can check the fuel line

by fuel starvation, he means there may be low fuel that is getting away from the pump while in a right hand turn. I dont see this to be an issue. sounds like something electrical to me.

I think you were on the rite track with the fuel thing, ive seen this before. Check in the tank to see if something could be causeing n issue or if you have any dents in the bottom.

When I bought my car, the fuel pump had no pickup sock attached to it. I could make left turns fine, but right turns always stalled the car. Might want to look into it.

Does it stall when turning the wheel to the right when stopped? Could be a power steering issue. If not, then the fuel pump baffle came loose in the tank.

No it doesn't when I'm at a stand still just only when I'm driving it does it , but the thing is , It doesn't do it all the time one day all day the next day nothing , but I'll check the tank and see if there are any dents.

my bet is something in the harness rubs and shorts when you make right turns.

dirty fuel sock/ dented up pan... possible.

Loose/ piss poor connections in engine harnesss... likely

That is 100 percent the harness lol. Check your alt fuse too. @bbsalexaz how in the world would a dented pan have to do with anything?

Yes I am lowered on full coilovers but none of the wires are in the way of that , that was the first thing I checked. I guess I'll have to go through the whole harness unwrap and re-wrap and see what may be exposed or loose.

Spend 30 minutes pulling your fuel pump and just check the pickup sock before you start fucking with the harness. I thought it was electrical at first too, but what you're experiencing sounds exactly like what happened with my POS.

Do you have a walbro? Does it do it on full tank too? My walbro would not go below quarter tank, and the way i knew i was running out is by taking right turns and stalling.

I think he meant dented up tank. I could see if the tank were dented in the right place it would starve the fuel pump.

Not sure what pump is there , I just got the car maybe 2 months ago. I got a half full tank in there now and it does it.

Check your battery connections. Same problem was faced by me due to battery connection that was cracked half the way through and was enough to disrupt the power flow. So check that, if there is corrosion on there clean it off. Or else you might have fuel pump issue.

Put a fuel pressure gauge at the inlet of your fuel rail, and in a way that you can see it when you are driving... if the pressure drop before it stops... then it's a fuel problem... if not, then I tend to say that it's an electrical one.
