howdy, again... I just purchased an SR blacktop at venus and when they did a compression test on the cylinders, i watched the guy as he poured a little bit of oil(i think?) into each cylinder and it read 210 210 240 210  The high compression readings appealed to me so i purchased it. Now to my knowledge, turbo engines are suppose to have low compression??? are these readings a good thing?..

sounds like an sr20de with a sr20det turbo kit.

Umm in a perfect would a stock SR would be in the range of 170 at best. Obviously there are so ranges in there.

Why did he put oil into the cylinders before doing the compression test? I think SR's are supposed to read something around 160-180

Its common practice on a compression test for a motor that is out of a car and hasn't been started. Think about it, if the car was running, the oil pump would have oil up in the motor, so there would be no need for this. By practice you should only put about a teaspoon in each cylinder.

the only reason it read so high is cause he used oil
yes the specs on a sr20det r bout 180 per cylinder
so most likely this motor is in good shape....
good luck...
make sure there no dent in oil pan and prime engine w oil bfore start

actually, half of the oil pan is bent. Would it cause any problems if i just bang it out? i think ill try that and if it doesnt look too good, ill order a new one. Anyone know if an oil pan can be purchased using another vehicle information?

seems like a damn lot...how long did the engine sit? Pouring oil in is one thing to help lube shit up, but 210 is rediculous

I wouldn't be surprised though. Its dependant on how much oil the guy really used, and what weight.

I know my redtop motorset had 195 on 3 of the cylinders, and 185 on the last.

I felt that was high at first, but ran with it until I decided to start in on my build. After opening up the engine, I found nothing wrong.
