Well well well where do I start with this? So basically I've had this dream/idea of having a SR20 powered subaru. Since my 1st love was a gc8 and my 2nd was my SR/S13 I only thought it would be necessary. I always wanted to do it but was low on funds. I got together with some newly acquainted people that are pretty damn good at what they do when it comes to fabrication and wiring. The guys down at Duncan Motors here in Vallejo, CA have been more than helpful to me. The guys down there most definitely know what they're doing especially when it comes to fab work and electrical. We are going through the process of making EVERYTHING perfect for this setup from motor placement to the actual geometry of the car. This car has a lot of man hours and patience put into it, and when you see the finished project you will understand why. This car already had a SR in it and was running but was strictly a mock up, but the engine blew so now I'm basically starting over. I yanked the old motor and got another one. Basically what we have here is a 95 Impreza L that has been converted from AWD to RWD. The car was originally supposed to be a track car, but I'm working on putting interior back together and using it on a daily basis. I know there is less than a handful of people already trying this swap, but i plan to be the first on actually having it running and driving with ZERO problems. For the mock fit, the crossmember was lowered 1 1/2inch and notched. We used solid polyurethane S13 engine mounts with a S13 Nismo transmission mount. The welded R160 differential and 1-piece driveshaft is already made and ready to go as well. Please feel free to ask any questions. These are pictures of where the car stood almost 2 years ago. (02 WRX dash, FMIC and some other things haha). The nicer/cleaner looking Impreza is just a parts car i bought. More pictures will be posted after every step is complete!

The shell was purchased in May of 2010. Here are some pictures of how the car looked when I bought it:

Later we made strictly a mock-up fitment to get the engine and driveline in and this is how it turned out:

no pics right now. more descriptive pics will be posted when car is FINISHED! i can tell you now though that the subframe wasnt hard to modify. Im using aftermarket solid S13 engine mounts.

def. going to be looking forward to this. any plans as far as body work?

exterior wise i have to mount my 40mm widebody quarters still (40mm fenders are on car). i plan on repainting the car that stock green then putting white wheels on it. Also am going to be using stock bumper.

Please dont make this another HUGE, EPIC build that never gets finished haha.

I'm on here trying to learn more about 240's since I'm trying to get one eventually as a drift car but right now I have a WRX and I think this is so dope! You gotta be sure to do the full RS aero on it once your done since that looks like an L your swapping into. You should post it on nasioc once your done. They'll probably give you some nice responses haha; especially if its slammed and flush but they hate everything.

I'm more interested in this, more info? Is it an import or a swapped/converted ST184? I used to be obsessed with the 6th-gen Celis, but the 5th-gen hatches (especially GT-Four) were great too. Nice car.

Now...I saw something about a Subaru?

thats my car with the first sr! that sr setup was just a mock up to see if it would work. then the motor blew like hella fast so we started all over and did it the right way this time with a new sr and different mounts

ok here it goes. like 2 years ago i spoke about doing this swap but didnt have the time nor the cash to do it. i was talking to my friend Dee (original owner of car) and he actually did a mock up on it. so the car was built as a mock up (just to see if it would work)..then the motor blew and he gave up, stripped the car, and needed it gone. so i took it off his hands and did everything all over again, but this time wasnt a mock up. Everything is legit this time and will be done the right way.

as far as aero goes...i have the widebody. i plan on getting the do-luck sideskirts and stock RS front end. thats it. and nasioc is kinda shitty to me haha its posted on RS25 and I-Club.

You might be a little surprised off this, but the 3s thats in it is from a WRC Rally Spec All-Trac. fully built, nothing over looked. but it was my daily so i had it tuned for daily driving. i didnt need high boost or any of that so be tuned it at 7psi and it still made those numbers.

Yeah, I remember dreaming about swapping 3S-GTEs and pouring over 6gc.net all day. Since it's AWD, did you import an AWD chassis, do an all-out conversion on a US FWD model, or somehow get your hands on a US-model All-Trac? I don't remember if Toyota ever marketed AWD/turbo models in the United States for 5th gens but I know they didn't for the 6th gens so that's why I ask.

no not at all. mine is factory awd. the only conversion done was the engine swap. toyota only imported/sold 81 all tracs in the US and they only came in 5 colors: white, black, red, white, silver. They didnt import any of the 6th gen models.

Update #2:
This is where the car stands as of today (1/5/11)
Ok so basically i had to put the project on halt for a little bit. I will pick up again on it on 1/21 (due to legal issues.) NO ITS NOT STOLEN! The quarters have been cut for the 40mm widebody I'm installing. I also included a more complete engine bay picture, but i guarantee it wont look like that in a couple weeks. I've decided to change a few things and maybe add a few more goodies. but here are some better exterior pictures for all of you who are following this build. Once 1/21 comes along I will be updating every week so stay tuned in to this.

Looks pretty cool man. I gave up on the S-chassis a while back. Probably shoulda just thrown my S15 motor in there but I wanted that extra half a liter. That STi 6-speed aint cheap to make RWD

Cool....Subie guys will bitch tho. lol

Naaa to each his own, and considering the price it cost to modify a Suby, the SR is a smart move. I busted 500hp with an EJ20G and it wasn't cheap. Its one of the reasons I moved to a S chassis, cause its cheap!! (in Japan that is)

VERY NICE! i wanted to do a V7 swap in my 00' RS so bad. but once i started looking at the price of things i overwhelmed myself. then i got a s13 and put a sr in it, fell in love with the feel of the motor, but wasnt a fan of the s13 body. so i took the RS and SR and forged em together to make what i call my "dream" car haha. KEEP YOU'RE BUILD GOING! DONT STOP. ITS LOOKING GREAT!

Update #3
Where the car stands as of (1/29/11)
Here is another update of the car. As you can see we mocked up the widebody and just used self-tapping screws to fit it properly. Also I received my 00' 2.5RS Bumper today, received my 17x9.5 +22 5Zigen GN+, and have also started mocking up the cage. This cars' deadline is Feb. 20 so please stay subscribed to this build to see what has yet to come and be here for the finishing touches.

After thinking of what front end to go with I decided to just stick with the OEM 00-01 RS Bumper:

Once established in the shop we started gutting the car more and mocking up the dash fitment:

Update #4
Where the car stands as of (2/12/11)
First off let me apologize for not taking more pictures. The cage is pretty much done just have to make door bars. I'm currently test fitting seats because the plans have changed and I've decided to go full interior since this will be a street/track car. I've been running into issues at the last minute (it can never go smoothly). Ive been received wrong parts and also have been running into wiring problems so that has set me back. Now its crunch time. My crew 8 days till the show. Here are the pictures I've taken of the exterior. Wheels have been mounted (not its permanent fitment) i still need to adjust camber and cut out a little from the rear quarters and possibly go lower. I've also mocked up the front end with the stock L headlights and grille.
http://i.imgur.com/dD8kBl.jpg

In the midst of all this I purchased some 17x9.5 5Zigen GN+ to help fill in the widebody which we also managed to test-fit:

haha 2 doors are a dime a dozen. No one is saying find yourself a 99-01 2.5rs. This is a 95 L haha base model. Nothing special. They all look the same just minor exterior differences. Give me a couple years and this thing will have a V8 haha

At least is a show and not a demo/event. You can just have the car sit there all pretty and not worry about starting it up. Haha. Good luck!

Are the rear seats getting reupholstered? It looks like they have been stripped and are just the foam pieces sitting in there.

im not a half-ass type of person. I cant settle for just form or just function it must all be done or I wont be satisfied. and yeah i was just test fitting the foam from the stock backseats. I just picked up some 04 WRX backseats so that's what will be in it.

Haha yes that was a mock up. Now the crossmember is tubular and looks much better. As for the steering rack all I had to do was extend the steering linkage out a bit because I lowered the crossmember height 1 1/2inch.

Update #5:
This is where the car stands as of today (3/18/11)
Ok so...basically why things have been going so slow lately is because i got laid off. So this is where the car stands. We started the body work and all paint supplies will be ordered next week. Also I started on the interior. Electrical was another thing that was started. We decided to mount the fuse box and computer directly behind the switch panel.

http://i.imgur.com/qUDWkl.jpg

Im also working on making an S13 subframe work for my rearend issues, and making all s14 suspension components work for the front to help with the steering angle. Basically when finished this will be a GC body on a S-Chassis. Cross your fingers folks

Update #6:
This is where the car stands as of today (4/05/11)
So the past 2 weeks or so we have been focusing on the body work that was needed and also was thinking of an appropriate yet different color to throw on this car. I didnt want it to be too flashy. I just wanted a nice looking car. We eliminated the door body trim and filled the holes as well as made the trunk badgeless. I also did a bit of shaving on the front fenders. Anyone who is familiar with B-Magic fenders knows it has that inside lip...well since my stance is a lot wider than most GC's I cut out that lip (pictured). Also the center of the front bumper was cut out to fit the FMIC. Wiring will continue now that the car is painted. I should be posting the first start up video very soon. Enjoy.

I had to shave down the inner lips of the front fenders so they would scrape as bad. Also the front license plate holder and some other things on the bumper had to be cut to fit the front mount:

^^^Finished product. Went with a metallic forest green color. What we had was several different shades of green then mixed them all in one can and came out with this. The pictures dont do the paint justice. Once this is buffed out and i get a better photographer (other than myself) then you will see the true color.

This is where the car stands as of today (9/10/11)
It has been a long journey...now i know you guys are still asking (is it running?)...to answer your question...not officially haha. wiring is 100% done and engine cranks. the only reason i haven't started it is because i dont want to make the intercooler piping before we make the crossmember. The car is about to go out to Cortex Racing at Infineon Raceway to begin the tubular crossmember and custom bump-steer rods. Then you will see the car work/drive, but since paint i have managed to put the turbo setup on, order 06 STI hubs/brakes so I could eliminate the hub adapters, and also pick up a some 500 Series Fortune-Auto Coilovers. Update #8:
This is where the car stands as of today (11/22/11)
This past week has been non-stop. This week was dedicated strictly to finishing the crossmember for proper engine placement. We moved the motor 2inch back and 1inch down from the original fitment. We ended up managing to make the stock steering rack work with the new crossmember aswell, however we had to make completely custom mounts and mounting brackets which came out even better then I believed they could. Tomorrow we will start on the transmission mount then on to the exhaust and intercooler piping. The cage will also be re-done to 1 3/4inch tubing and built to SCCA Spec (It will still be a drift car just different spec cage). Stay tuned. I can see the first start-up happening soon. And also contact me if you're interested in the BEST quality roll-cage you can get in Northern California.

The car arrives at Cricks Custom Fabrication and we begin by moving the motor back to where we would like to see it when crossmember is finished:

http://i.imgur.com/lvP6Bl.jpg

Next we started to make the mounts for the steering rack:
http://i.imgur.com/3VstHl.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/y6CO5l.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/kkD15l.jpg

Test fit was then made:
http://i.imgur.com/uEu8Fl.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/XWMpWl.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/8ncyKl.jpg

This crossmember is one hell of a piece. We actually kind of tested it with a porta-power to see if it would hold and the porta-power actually started leaking fluid and couldn't pump out any more pressure to it. I couldn't be happier with the way it came out. I hope to keep you guys intrigued as the build goes on. Thank you

Update #9:
This is where the car stands as of today (11/27/11)
Today I went back over to my friends garage where my car currently is to do my part in finishing up on the transmission mount and getting the crossmember/mounts painted for their final installation. I also decided to take advantage of the time while the pieces were out of the car to feed you some more detailed pictures so you can see exactly what kind of skill/fabrication had to go into this project. Enjoy

Last night we got everything together and managed to get the FIRST START UP! The wiring worked flawlessly! We had some kinks such as a broken hose in the fuel pump, but it fired right up. The reason the video was cut short after start up is because there was a minor fuel problem that we are working on now. ENJOY!

First off let me thank everyone for viewing the video. The video has reached 1,148 views which I'm pretty happy about. We also managed to find out why the motor wasn't getting oil to the head; the oil pan was dented in so the oil pick-up was blocked, so I replaced it with my tomei pan and now it works 110%. We managed to start on the rollcage as well which is coming out really well thanks to cricks custom fabrication (where my car has been the past few months). Some of you have replied/or PM'd me on the downpipe clearance so before we took it out to weld in the O2 bung I took some pictures for you.

Hello Everyone! Well the cage is finally finished and I must say I'm extremely pleased with it. We tried doing something really unique with the door bars to go with the rest of the car, and I think we hit the nail on the head with this design. Also we managed to mock up the fitment for the front bumper. The bumper support is currently being made right now, but we are just about there. Here is how the cage came out.

Update #13:
This is where the car stands as of today (3/31/12)
Hello everyone! Sorry for the delay of updates. I had to save some money up so I could start progressing quicker with the build. You all should be pleased to know that the updates will start flowing a little more smoothly now. Since the last update I painted the interior of the car and also ordered some parts through Garage Boso (who is tuning my car). Within the next few days we will be pulling the motor and installing the new parts then dropping it back in for tuning purposes. I also managed to pick up a R180 from a 05 STi that is currently being modded by Weir Performance and should be done this Monday coming up (4/2). Once my axles from the driveshaftshop come in my whole driveline will be complete. Here are the interior cage pictures. I will be uploading more pictures as parts come in and get installed. Note: I forgot to upload a picture of how we cut out my quarter panels after they were done so I included that as well. Thanks for looking!

Update #14:
This is where the car stands as of today (4/8/12)
I told some of you I'd have an update today; so here it is! During this past week I pulled the motor to clean it up a bit and add in my Apexi Headgasket and Exedy Hyper-Single. While the motor was out we also managed to delete the IAC and make a nice blocking plate for it. All engine work was done at Borco Performance here in Vallejo, CA. Yesterday I spent a good 5hrs swapping the rear end. I purchased a R180 from a 05 STi and brought it directly to Weir Performance for a LSD upgrade which made it from a 8-plate into a 12-plate LSD. Next was purchasing axles so of course I had to go to the driveshaft shop and purchased their 800hp STi axles, and lastly was to finally put on my rear 06 STi brembos I had laying on the side of my house. The car will be going down to Garage Boso in Gardena either late this month or early next month for tuning. I should have some more updates before then though. Until then...Enjoy!

Yeah I've neglected this forum since they never wanted to move it to the build threads section. So here you go. All of the updates you all have missed:

Update #15:
This is where the car stands as of today (6/9/12)
Yes it has been a long time since I have an done an update, but I can assure you it was for good reason. I was acquiring numerous amounts of parts to finish the car so there wouldn't be any more halts in the production of the build. What we are focusing on now is doing a whole new braking system. This consists of:
Tilton 600 Series pedals, New reservoirs, Rotors, Lines, Pads, CNC Hand-Brake. The progress you are about to see is from this past weekend. Enjoy:

Day the Tilton's and StopTech's came in:

Update #16:
This is where the car stands as of today (6/22/12)
Hello Everyone! I told you I'd keep you updated right? Well here is the latest. We have been dissecting this brake system the past few days now. Cricks Racing Fabrication (where the car has been) made a custom mount for the CNC hydraulic e-brake, we installed the new power slots/stoptech kit, and also started making the mount for the accusump system. I hope you enjoy!

Update #17:
This is where the car stands as of today (7/13/12)
Hello again ladies and gents! The car is being stripped back down to repaint the inside. I was extremely unhappy with the way the rattle can came out; so I went to a local auto body supply company and purchased a dark metallic gray paint to spray the interior with and also the engine. I figured I'd update just to keep you guys interested haha. We also mounted the accusump in its permanent location.

Update #18:
This is where the car stands as of today (8/16/12)
Once again my apologies for the lack of updates. I recently finished spraying the inside of the car. I know before it was white, but I rattle canned it that time and didn't like the finish product. I also didn't like the fact that every track Impreza I see nowadays has white interior. This time I went with a nice metallic gray single stage paint. I'm getting my engine and suspension parts in order now so the functionality of the car can start coming together. I'm ust trying to keep everyone interested!

Update #19:
This is where the car stands as of today (9/15/12)
Well last week my tuner Frank Siharath came up from Southern California to take a look at my car in person and also pick up my engine to run through it and make sure everything was good. Unfortunately; We did come across some minor issues (leaks coming from 3 valves and also a sign of the rings going out) so now we are doing Brian Crower Valves, Tomei Poncams (256), and a new set of rings. I haven't got word yet if we need to do machine work. These are pictures that Frank has taken with his phone being as which he is 400+ miles away. I will be adding pictures to this update rather than starting a new update for the same thing. These are what I have now.

Update #20:
This is where the car stands as of today (4/5/13)
Well hello everyone. This is the time most of you been waiting for. This is the resurrection of project powerplenty!!! The car was brought back to the shop this past monday where we have been brainstorming on this build. As some of you may know I ran into some mechanical issues with my SR that my pockets weren't deep enough to fix so I settled down, put my thoughts together, and purchased a Ford 302 with some tasteful modifications off of a buddy of mine. Last night we started the process of fitment so here you go! The beginning to many more updates!!!

http://i.imgur.com/O7NubCx.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/ry3fsmj.jpg

As far as the interior goes...we are starting back at ground zero!
http://i.imgur.com/Gx9hQRx.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/48YV1Ig.jpg

We cut out the firewall and tranny tunnel to push the engine as far back as possible which will bring the shifter through the stock location:

http://i.imgur.com/r6VU6pS.jpg

And thus...we set her in just to see the clearance and if the oil pan hits the crossmember:

I won't count this as an updates since there was very minimal done since the last update. What we have here is the complete engine (excluding intake) dropped in the car in the position it will be in when done. It's kicked a little towards the passenger side due to us test fitting headers on the driver side. As you can see there was a lot of cutting involved which will be covered by a sheet metal tranny tunnel. The oil pan is notched and is ready to get built!

Update #21:
This is where the car stands as of today (1/7/14)
Well it has been a long road and waiting show for sure! My fabricator has finally cleared a schedule to get the subie back in the shop and functionally finish her! We are making our way from the front to the back of the car. We started off modding the crossmember by gusseting the engine mounts and doing minor modifications for the FWD rack (PS lines hit a little bit). Once that was conquered; We welded the R180 being as which it was already out of the car, and I wanted to get it back in so I could assemble the rear end. Now we are on the final stage of new FLCA's which push the ball joint 1" forward and 1" out; Not to mention the new arms only weigh 1lb more than the aluminum sti arms. We will also be building lateral links and trailing arms in the near future! Enjoy!!!

Just installed the one arm we built to see how much room we had. The test wheel is a 17x9 +15 with a 235/40 <<(I think). We were very pleased with the outcome. With a lower offset and maybe a spacer we will surely acquire some good angle. As of right now the tire hits the frame, but that is at FULL lock.

Update #22:
This is where the car stands as of today (3/27/14)

What's up everyone? Well currently my car is pushed out of the shop so my fabricator could make some quick cash building some cages. In the meantime while I'm waiting I've decided to share my finished mount kit and my finished FLCA's. These FLCA's are available for purchase ($700 raw metal or $800 with powder coat of your choice) They push the ball joint 1" out and 1"forward in comparison with the STi Aluminum Arms. They also only weigh 1-2lbs heavier than the aluminum arms. The FLCA we built uses a 95 (GC) style ball joint that you can purchase virtually anywhere. I decided to use Moog's. The FLCA them selves are made of cold rolled 1018 steel. If you're interested in purchasing please PM me here or email us at [email protected]

This is where the car stands as of today (1/18/15)
Did you guys forget about me yet? I'm sorry for the lack of updates. My fabricator had tons of projects that took precedence over my build, and now that he earned his Pro2 Formula D license he is trying to get my car done before he has to start building his new comp car. We have done a lot in these past 2 weeks. I hope this update brings my subscribers back.

PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR THE PHOTO QUALITY. I SOLD MY DSLR SO NOW I'M USING MY IPHONE 5S.

When I sold my SR swap kit the buyer was also interested in the custom arms we made that you can see in the previous update. We made some new arms that are a bit different and will allow for more clearance:

Yeah man when we did the 1st start up with the SR there was a perfect dent in the center of the oil pan which blocked the pick up tube and the starvation caused tons of scoring in the head and I didn't want to pay for a rebuild.

Update #24:
This is where the car stands as of today (1/24/15)

As promised...more updates!! This week/weekend we happened to button up the rear end with some ebay links (highly recommended by Logan of Drift Union). The entire rear is done and torqued to spec, the only finishing touch was to add the ARP extended studs. Rather than taking the time to drill out the ABS sensor hole I milled down the ARP stud just small enough to fit through the sensor hole.

We also managed to build an appropriate fitting aluminum fan shroud for my 16" Spal. The ovals on the template signify where the bead-roll would be to give the shroud some characteristics. The fitment in the car was simply perfect!

Lastly we drilled the appropriate hole in the knuckles to add that much more steering angle and assembled the front end so we can finally start making the bump-steer kit. Looks good right?
