Introducing: Parts Shop MAX Adjustable Shift Knob!

One of our customers asked me if i could make an adjustable shift knob.

I thought thats a great idea because everyone seems to have a preference on long sure shifts or short notchy shifting.

When I thought about how to do it and style it, I thought about how our coilovers adjust and brought those elements together into an all CNC aluminum anodized shift knob with great feel, perfect weight and ergonomics.

This will bring a very unique look to your car, and will match all of your other MAX parts. It gets attention. I already have people asking me all about it on the streets.

The above pix are the standard range of adjustment, a little over 3 inches vertical.
The pic below is how low it can go if you cut the inner sleeve height allowing the knob to slide down over the OEM lever a little over three inches down. At that level the locking collars are not doing anything but sitting on the shift boot.

I've been running this (prototype) in my daily driver Genesis since August and when its really hot, the knob is of course hot too but being aluminum it changes temperature to match your hand pretty quick. It was never bad enough to effect driving and I've never had to put something between me and the knob. Don't wuss out on me.

Depending on how you like the height you can adjust the weight by cutting off the unused portion of threads, and if you decide its too light you can just thread that piece back inside.

I've ran a heavier long acrylic knob for a while and the weight of this is far better for speed and accuracy.

This has three of the most common threads inside. Yours is probably 12mm x 1.25 thread. If that's correct you are good.

The only color is the one shown in the OP. But when it comes to changing the orange part to brushed aluminum, you could do that with a scotch brite pad or fine sand paper or both.

I like to give customers what they want where possible but that's sounds hard to do on a suby. I could imagine autocross guys complaining why they are not ohlins or motons and the rally guys will hate on us for lowering the pure bred rally machine. Am I wrong about the demographics?

^ I agree. Its a marketing thing. You guys are in the drifting segment and you guys do it best. I dont think you guys will do well selling STI and Evo coilovers. I own an Evo X MR myself and i dont think i would buy PBM coilovers. I am not trying to say you guys make bad products, cause i love my coilovers on my S13. The Evo ad Sti crew are much more demanding when it comes to aftermarket parts. If i was to get coilovers for the evo, it would have to very technical 3 way coilovers. I could see you guys making good sales on suspension arms for evos and sti.

You cut the black threaded part to make it go really low. Use loctite to fix the position.

if anyone has any ideas how to add weight inside the shifter im open to suggestions! When you have the knob adjusted up like you have it, you can fit a solid piece of lead or steel rod in the hollow center above the black threaded part and below the gold top. You can just unscrew the top hat and drop in the weight. You could wrap the weight in paper so that it does not bounce around in there. If it feels too heavy you could cut the weight down, and repack it, and then when it feels right to you can make a more permanent method of retaining the weight.

i want to say, this is an ingenious solution to making an adjustable shift knob without making it a lot of hassle for the user...

if you want to put in weight, i would suggest making the lower threaded section of the knob hollow down to the point where the shifter male threads into the knob female...then make it so you can add weights into the cylinder

take it apart and make sure its clean, there is not any burr or something obviously in the way of the threads. I had one that was a little difficult to screw in, so I unthreaded the handle, threaded it in the opposite direction past the difficult spot, and then it was good after I worked it in.
If its too much hassle, just send it back and I'll take a look and send you a new one if sometihng isn't right.

the powdercoat shop has not done any multiple colors on one knob yet so I dont know the price till they do one and tell me ~ I assume its more than $25 additional for the one color powdercoat I have as an option in the shopping cart. You can paypal the additional fee after they give me the actual cost.

Ya know whats funny? I ordered an orange one a while ago, because I thought it looked like the best color that was available. I didn't have anything orange that matches in my car though. The car is green, and the dash cluster lights are red, and the boost gauges and everything are red... A few days ago I ordered Amber LED's for the gauge cluster to change those, so now this shift knob will match perfectly!! :)

Also, I give props to whoever was the genius that designed these shift knobs... They're made to look like coilovers... have adjustable height, and feel great... best shift knob ever made imo... :)

I double checked their site, and double checked my invoice, so just a heads up you guys should notate that the heavier one is more expensive. (to add a drift knob, it says +$10, but for the heavier knob it doesn't mention any price increase).
I'm totally okay with paying $75, but the costs should be visible when adding to cart/checking out.

The heavy option is a totally separate part that replaces the threaded core. Its compatible with all of the MAX adjustable shift knobs new and old. I'll post a link to buy it by itself when it comes in.

Unfortunately though, for some reason, it does not fit my coupe. M10 side will only thread a little, looks like I need to retap it to spec I guess. It does fit in my scion xB though, which will be good for my girlfriend since she's been wanting a taller knob.

Edit: tried it in my girlfriend's coupe, and it fits just fine. Apparently my b&m short shifter is a different thread pitch (even though her stock knob fits on my b&m, and the grex knob I took off of my b&m fits her stock shifter) so it looks like I'll be taking a die to it.
