Installing a RPM tachometer

I have an s13 swap in a 89 240. Tach dosn't work, bought an aftermarket one. I need some serious help wiring it up. If anyone knows a good article, or anyone can guide me the right way! Thx in advance.

What do you have. Just an S13 SOHC or did you do a SR20 swap??? If your tach isnt working, you should have tried another one BEFORE buying an aftermarket one. Your problem could lie in wiring and not the cluster itself. Since you already have an aftermarket tach, here is what you can do. I wont go though powering it....that is simple enough. If you cant get power, then you shouldnt be doing ANY wiring in your car. This is how I got my tach to work (aftermarket). I spliced the tach signal wire from teh aftermarket tach to a wire on the plug that goes into the cluster. I am unsure of the color I chose. It may have been yellow/red. This requires you to remove the dash. I have heard you can splice that wire directly to the ECU tach wire, but I didnt try it.

aww ****...I didnt read the post good enough. You should just need to get a 91 up ECU. I think you still have to wire it though. When I swapped in my RB20, the tach didnt just work. I had to wire the cluster plug to the ECu tach wire, THEN it worked.

Didn't work!!! red-power,black-ground,green-rpm wire. there is a white wire it says to put to the panel lights. Anyways, any suggestions. It is an s13(redtop) swap.

maybe you can hardwire it to the speed sensor on the transmission.. ? maybe the speed sensor doesnt work.. ?

my question was to know if you have some knowledge of your car because if you bought the car already swapped maybe some PART dont work anymore.. bad wiring..thing like that

Yellow wire red stripe from the ecu is then tach signal. Got it to work, thanks to all!!
