Who knows, I'll be running 13psi daily, i just want a decent daily the n/a vg was too slow, and too annoying to work on.

Swap was really fun overall, as for the suspension swap, i'm waiting for the machinest on that one, I have my coilovers out because I have custom top hats being made for them, so I have coilover camber adjustment on a 300zx! Other than that the rear is complete.

I'll have more pictures of my progress later today, I've only been working on the car for two weeks, so I can only work so fast.

I will, I've been doing little things to it the last few days getting it ready to go out the door for the first time. I'm still waiting on to buy a power steering line, the car is completely wired mostly, except the alt. and the fans, which i'm just wiring to a switch.

My gauges are wired and installed, almost done with the oil pan, and welding the diff and installing it tomorrow with the new drive shaft! Pictures to come

Darkvillin
09-24-2010, 09:05 PM
im on board with this...very cool. my only nit pick would be the fact that i like that the vg is so much smoother, and far less noisy (timing chain) than the ka is....but im loving this idea completely. good gas mileage? cheaper parts? why did you put on s13 suspension pieces since the z32 stuff weighs less? just curious...

Future_gohan
09-24-2010, 09:15 PM
No the front z32 stuff actually weighs a lot more. the rears I added 35 lbs but I also added a battery in the rear and deleted the abs control unit in the trunk. I think the added unsprung weight is a little better. Just my thoughts.

The whole point is for better gas mileage, easier to work on and far cheaper parts to to repair.

So far my diff is welded and in, i found out my custom driveshaft was wrong(the rear flange was in correct)

But finished the exhaust, tomorrow is the starting date!

The car will be lower, its still on the lift a little. haha :)

Future_gohan
10-02-2010, 06:45 PM
Well, finished everything, i hurried to get it done today, because i wanted to drive it home realllyyyyyy bad. But I ended up only getting to drive down the street, because I never had it off the lift, i didn't know how low it really was, and the rear fenders were lower than the wheel lip. So i'm in the process of pulling the rear coils and raising them an inch so i can drive it correctly. lol

Other than that, the ride was bouncy, i think because my front coilovers were blown, and the fact i've never drove a car on the road with coilovers, only in drifting so i wasn't used to it.

Ka pulls great, had no problems with the motor itself and all my gauges and stuff works on the cluster. Only thing is the car is really loud, it has an extreme tone to it. lol I'm sure i'll have some video and pictures when i actually bring it home.

The car is running great, suspension is great, feels just like my 240. haha

The car is quick too, its so much faster than my na vg, or atleast feels like it. it gets up and goes quicker.

The clutch is slipping, so this past event was horrible. But i'm still driving it, i just can't punch it(which sucks btw!) I'm going to replace it this winter, because my rear main seal likes aswell. But for now i'm working on getting all my interior situated (its mostly missing) and getting my wheels painted this weekend, you'll have to wait to see the color though :)

I'd like that too, but as my daily I like how it feels, it honestly has enough power for me, once i replace all the gaskets and put a new clutch in it i'm going to turn up the boost to a nice 11 or 12 psi, right now on stock.

Well, i'm normally all for that, but when i got this swap i was told it had an aftermarket clutch in it, and they swore it was, but then after I've been driving it the clutch is now slipping whenever i hit boost hard, so I'd rather not test it till next year.

i've been selling them i want 550 + shipping

Worth every penny. The one front tire has some mild curb rash but is perfectly fine. Tires are still pretty good.

and yes this powerplant will pay for itself in the long run, parts and stuff are a lot cheaper, and Its easier to work on if I NEED to do something to it.

Tantwoforty
12-07-2010, 09:10 PM
nah there isint any way around the custom sump with ka into a z32

on another note if your doing a VG into a 240 you just need a j30 oil pan and sump.

and the wireing is pretty simple, use a KA ecu and a KA harness. all you gotta do it look at the pinout and make sure all the 12 volts are correct (switched and non switched) make sure all the gorunds are correct and wire in the tach and IGN.
then troubleshoot. and thats prety much it.
the 90's era nissan ecu's are quite simple to transplant.
I.E sr20 into a honda delsol. wireing only look like 2 hrs, cake mode.
you just need a pinout for the ecu and a full wireing diagram for the Z and the 240 and the VG, a good logic probe and a vold meter.
just do some line follwing and its not to hard.

that i can't do, if i did all my work would be useless figuring it out. But I can do the harness threw my shop.

@tant - yes, theres no way around the custom oil pan, the sump sits directly on the crossmember with the motor mounts i made.

with the vg, even with a j30 oil pan(which i have) you still need to modify it some to clear the crossmember correctly. and I will be using a vg30 harness and just modifying it to work on a 240, because theres an igniter and coil packs, making a 240 harness work would be pointless.

@rhs - yeah, I know i change my mind a lot, I want everything, but you can't have everything, so i change my setups often, but my 240 is the last chassis i'll own for drifting for a long time, and i'll be keeping the vg30 in there for a long time, as for this z, I don't know whats going to happen to it.

if i keep it its getting my 18x10/18x11 wheels and a fresh paint job, if i don't keep it, i'm getting a 350z, that's the only car i'd switch too.

Okays, heres the update.

I have my wheels, not installed yet but shortly(18x10s).

I purchased an act stage 3 unsprung clutch.

shortly ordering my headgasket so i can install my built ka head.

Once all that's done and installed, i'm sending my knuckles and lcas to powered by max for some hardcore modifications, to have a z with the most angle ever ever.

and ordering they're coilovers hopefully.

Then its going for paint and getting new fenders and an oem front bumper

then getting it retuned so its more reliable.

the end. pictures soon. just wanted to give everyone a heads up

Also got my wheels to fit.

Intercooler fits very well on the bumper, so i'm stoked about it, Next I need a driverside fender and time for bodywork and paint!

on this note, I do have turnsignals too, Just not on me.

So I have some updates, some maybe hate the idea some might love it, It's a love hate thing for me aswell but I think It'll be the better choice for me.

I picked up an ls1 from a camaro, I got it so cheap I pretty much used change out of my pocket to pick it up.

So I'm talking with xcessive making a ls1 to vg30 trans adapter to mate the ls1 to my 300zx trans, and Going to get a 1 piece driveshaft made, haven't decided on EVERYTHING yet, but I'm going with a rear sump moroso oil pan(if nobody knows rear sump aftermarket pans clear the 300zx crossmember and steering rack), and most likely in the spring i'm going to install an 3qt accusump setup and it should be perfect.

To clear things up though, I LOVE the kat setup, but a mixture of me wanting to do this swap to show i can do ls1s is good for my business, it's more reliable in the sense I'm not pushing twice the hp of the motor, and Its going to be completely stock minus the headers and exhaust.

Formula D spec cage coming soon, complete tear down, 5 bolt rear welded in the works, pbm subframe risers are here just haven't installed them, among other things. This is a done deal the ka is sold and hopefully the swap parts are going to a forum member who really wants to do the swap!

Also bought off my buddy a corbeau fia approved seat and a new camlock 5 point.

Went ahead and picked up my 99 fbody ls1 and bought a new moroso 7qt oil pan and pick up. going to go threw the motor with new gaskets and such, not too much work, then getting ready to install

I got intake manifold gaskets for it and I just got my flywheel in for it, so sending it off with my z flywheel to get all the work done to it tomorrow.

Sat i'm pulling my ka-t and saying my good bys, and then picking up my new wheels. then ordering a bunch of different stuff for it and getting everything moving along

i was on board with the ka-t swap, but im totally on board with the ls1 swap. good luck with it and please keep us posted. have you ever been on youtube and seen the "godspeed z32" that has a vh motor in it? your swap should sound as nice or better and should be lighter as well.

If I didn't do an ls1 the vh was going to be my second swap, I love vh swaps, only reason I went against it is how big they are in comparison to the ls1.

I'm driving the ka-t for the last time tomorrow!!!!! I can't waitttttttttt

Today was eventful, I drove my car in the garage around 1130.

http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz266/driftiskool/WP_000278.jpg

By 215 it looked like this:

http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz266/driftiskool/WP_000280.jpg

From there cleaned up, and headed out for the road trip to Columbus. once there, I picked up

http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz266/driftiskool/WP_000283.jpg

and some wheels, but felt that was more important.

Then, realized my ka-t had so much torque it cracked my lower support in half. lawls

http://i834.photobucket.com/albums/zz266/driftiskool/WP_000295.jpg

Yeah, I like to take pictures a lot.

rears 225/40/18s fronts 235/40/18s i'm going to eventually get 225/40s for the front because these ones look like he drove on them with the tires backwards.

Haven't updated this in a bit. So i figured I would.

Scraped the ls1 setup because of machine shop delays.

Still not in the mood for a turbo setup.

Doing an initial tear down of the motor, it's in great shape for not running for 3 years, no sludge build up, it has the updated timing guides, new chains, new water pump and thermostat, among other stuff.

It had a rats nest under the intake manifold, so i'm tearing that all down to clean it all up and reseal all the gaskets and new hoses, most of it was dry rotted.

I'm also sending the intake and front covers off to get media blasted so they look clean and new.

im assuming this is similar to if you had an s14/13 and were doing this swap. are there mount kits available? are you making your own? are you going to have a manual setup or auto? isn't the cost of this going to be similar to the cost of the ls1?

I didn't change swaps to really lower the price(thought it helps), but to be able to finish it faster.

To accomplish this on a 240 you gotta make headers and stuff, the factory ones fit on my car.

18x10 rear 18x8.5 front real 3 piece wheels. rears are welded so they're only a two piece, the fronts i'm going to tear apart and get them to be 10's up front.

I did all the fitting to my wheels, I didn't notice it I guess but I think my one rear side is pulled out more than the other. idunno yet.

So that's all done.

I cut up my lca's and shortened them to add some + camber in the front untill i decide to make custom ones.

I mounted my k-sport ebrake and welded it to the trans tunnel, with all the interior in it looks pretty factory I'm pumped about that, i just gotta run the lines.

I sat my motor in, and said fuck.

Idk how the shit is suppose to clear the hood, but i'll figure it out, cutting my hood isn't an option.

Notch the crossmember and modify the oil pan and pickup. You'll probably have to make a custom intake manifold too.

Well theoretically I could space the lower crossmember down an inch, and would then clear the stock hood. But my car is slammed so i'm not doing that because I need all the clearances i can get.
