Manual boost controllers are second choice. Electronic is what I prefer. Greddy Profec B Spec II. Or the Blitz unit is nice too.

I actually prefer a manual one. I like my interior clean. Ive been using a hallman for years now and never a problem. They go for less then $100.

A tpiece is ok for low boost and low tunes.....

Depends what mods you have to accompany it....

I run a HDi EBC in my r32 gtr for tuning purposes

Manual boost controllers are very reliable which is a plus for most set ups. If you don't need crazy settings then go with that. You might be able to get boost a bit quicker with an electronic one but for me it wasn't worth the hassle or extra money. I need to drive better before I'll notice haha.

This thread is welcomed in my opinion. It seems that there are a lot of OPINIONS on the subject but nothing super concert. I did a lot of research before buying my Hallman, but there was no definitive thread that helped me decide on that.

I'd say get the $10 ebay ones. They help your boost by massively spiking and not working whatsoever.

/sarcasm

Since you said you're working on a tight budget, get a brand name manual boost controller. Easy to hook up and should be cheaper than the electronic ones. I used to install them in Evo's all day, takes minutes. Couple vacuum lines with some crimps, mount it somewhere, and tune it to whatever PSI you want (I'd stay 12 or under on a stock SR). I miss evo's and their 21lbs of boost...

For a near stock SR, Id say the Blitz Spec S. Reasonably cheap. PM if you need one. Spares available.

Blitz dual spec-r boost controller

Great controller but way to much for a small single set up. Best suited for twin turbo or large singles.

I had experience with most Japanese boost controller and I would have to say that there is nothing comparable to the Blitz SBC Dual boost controller.

They are very accurate and easy to use. I never had a problem with their solenoids either unlike those newer Greddy units with their small solenoids.

Greddy is good if you plan to boost no more than a little over 1 bar, because anything over that their solenoids will tend to act up in the long run. Try to avoid Profec B Type-S is junk!!!

HKS are good and are pretty comparable to Blitz but they are not user friendly depending on models.

Previously owned: Greddy Profec B type-S, Profec B SpecII, Blitz SBC DUAL, HKS Evc III, EVC IV, EVC V

After All of those I stuck with a Blitz Sbc Dual.

Went from AVCR to Blitz SBC id R, then add the multimeter thing, then EVC 5, then EVC 6. All in the had the same setup beside the exhaust upgrade.

Easiest to use? Blitz. You can set psi and the Blitz will do the magic.
Longest to setup? AVCR. But at the same time you set everything you want/needed.
Why HKS? It's like why you have any Sony stuff. It's just cool. But they are pretty hard to setup. I never really knew if I set them up right.

I believed I like the AVCR setup the most. I set the wastegate to be fully close before 2000 rpm and boost build up is the fastest out of the 4 EBC, even with a stock catback exhaust. I ditched it because the control unit is huge and outdated looking.

The Blitz EBC offers a lot of custom setup too, but never really used them. I used the manual setup and auto setup for boost only. The optional multimeter thing made them look cooler together, but the main thing it adds to the EBC is the speed-boost relationship, which is pretty worthless to me running a t25 turbo. Ditched it because I hate to run the boost source to the inside of the car and I do not like the idea of separating the brain and control unit.

Got a great deal on a EVC 5 and could not pass it up. Looks cool, but it is a EVC EZ with a monitor, which made me pretty sad... Brain and control unit split is not my cup of tea either. However, it allows you to set a password to protect your "custom" setting...

Another great deal on a EVC 6 and could not pass it up either. The coolest of all EBC I have ever owned. Still hard as sh*t to use, but I managed to set it up and use the boost function. You can tap into TPS and other sensors like the AVCR from 2000 years ago to alter peak boost. I am going to keep it just because it looks cool though.

Never experienced MBC before so I cannot give any opinion about it. But make sure to buy quality items. But I like EBC better because I can set the boost, run it, then correct it while I am inside of the car.
