Thanks man! I love your build as well. Very simple and detailed. Looks factory yet you know its modded by the overall look/feel. I know mine is completely different so thanks for the encouragement! Hopefully I will have some useful updates in the near future.

I dont yet. Once I can get the whole car back to the fab shop, I will post pics of how it will mount. Its pretty simple but hard to explain. Basically going to use base plates and slip fitting to hold the bash bar in place.

My plan is to route everything to the driver's kick panel. The fan relays, injector relays/fuses and ecu will go in the inside panel where the oem chassis fuse block was locatrd. The new painless harness is "planned" to be mounted in the center under the armrest. This way I can avoid having pesky passengers accidentally kicking my sh*t.

I couldnt decide what I wanted to do with the dash.... leave it alone, wrap it, new vinyl...... then I said Flock it and ordered this....

And simply one of the coolest gadgets to simplify the wiring and my well being as a result. The ARC flat touch panel is killer.

Since I decided to leave the wide body panels exposed (not molded) I wanted to make it easy to remove buy using bolts vs rivets. And of course you cant just go down to ACE Hardware.

I am going to try this whole fuel cell thing one last time. This one is approved by FIA, NHRA, NASA and pretty much any other racing body.

Big THANKS to Jeremiah for suggesting the Aluminum version. Saves 13lbs over steel and looks pretty cool. It has an internal sump with 3 check valves to ensure pickup always has fuel to the last drop. The leveler is calibrated for GM type output and remote filler neck can be clocked any direction.

Should I keep this in or see if the mods will move it to general population? Or wait until I get further along to decide?

I want to give a shout out to my boy Yee for helping me with getting the TTY bolts. They were SCARY to torque down. Anyways got the tedious rocker arm install done, intake and water pump mounted. She is about ready to rock and roll.

After talking to a friend and doing some research, the LS2 intake was only marginally better than the LS1 intake. Significant gains were seen from guys with just bolt-ons so I figure my setup would benefit. So out with the old and in the new.

Edwin,

Let me get it for you. The paint shop used the Nissan alpine white paint code. However they simply asked the shop to NOT mix any yellow like the original code calls for. So this is all white. I will see if they made a specific code for it but otherwise it's simply Nissan alpine white without the yellow in the mix.

Thanks guys! There are some incredible builds on here. My hope is this inspires others to mod their car properly no matter how big or small.

So to avoid any confusion from the previous pics, the cage is different today. The reason being the old cage did NOT meet D1, NASA and other circuit racing based rules. Here is de/re-construction.

My builder based it off the minimum requirements for D1 (ER cage). It was out determination that the side impact was extremely important due to the FRP Origin doors wouldnt stop a Playskool tricycle, thus the back portion was "X" to take impact and transfer to the back for additional protection. And a few gussets in various places for piece of mind.

Beautiful build so far dude! when is your estimated date for completion ?

Its up in the air. Depends on how much time I can spare between sales (my funding source), the girl and whatever else takes me away from weekend working. The hardest part for me is going to be wiring. EVERYTHING will get new wires, connectors, etc... This will be my first full chassis harness so I need to put most of interior in to figure out where I am going to route the harness, mount the fuse box and the ARC switch panel.

So to answer your question...... I dont know :bite:

They are XRP Clamshell Fittings very similar to Wiggins. Broadfield is an advertiser on the forum and he is my source for all my fittings.

"i wanna see close ups of the rear wide body panels did u end up using rivets? i didnt see any bolts"

Apex, I only have a few BOLTS in place right now but what I did was put rivnuts behind the panel so I can use bolts, NOT rivets. Rivnut basically allows you to place a threaded insert in a blind panel. I know most of the experienced guys know how to proper wire harnesses and such. But for those DIY first timers I can't say enough about how easy using proper weatherpack and metripack connectors can be for your harness.

Example: George's HID kit. Plug n Play by using male connectors you plug into your current oem connector. Since I'm doing a harness I want true "plug n play".

This is such an amazing build thread I almost feel like I shouldn't comment. Your attention to detail is beyond impressive, and is inspiring to say the least.

- One question though, are you using a used GTO engine, or did you buy a crate motor new and just use those covers?

Good luck, I hope I get to see the final product here!

Thanks! The motor came from a wrecked 2005 GTO with 23K miles on it. There was t a drop of oil or fluid on the motor or transmission so I jumped on it. I like the gear ratio of the later model 6.0-6.2 liter motors more than the LS1 so it too was an added benefit.

I took the saved expenses of buying a new crate motor to put heads, cam, intake and other items to make this a more reliable setup for racing. It all depends on how the car will be used. If this was a weekend or nice weather street car I would have bought a crate motor and be done.

For those who aren't familiar with the kit they use custom machines fitting for the rack that will seat it all the way down so no leaks will occur. Since my reservoir and fittings are all AN they made this setup particular for the KRC pump/reservoir setup.

I don't see how straight fittings are going to work for the rack. You are going to need at least 45 degree fittings at the rack to avoid the frame rail.

Metripack is really nice as well. I may do some items with those as the pins tend to seat better than weatherpack. Still both are better than a butt connector IMO.

http://i102.photobucket.com/albums/m99/scotheocelot/5be1ae0d.jpg

I have a question for you guys. Can I make a bracket for the FPR and bolt it to the lip on top of the firewall? It's the perfect spot at the rear of the motor for the fuel line routing but I'm not positive if this violates any safety rules.

Oh and one other thing. Now that I have a radiator surge tank is it okay to remove the original filler neck and cap from the radiator and fill it from the surge tank? I believe this is the ideal way so no air gets trapped. However since the bottom surge tank piece is a -8 which feeds to the water pump outlet it may take a day to fill the damn thing up.

Thanks guys!

I will post detailed pictures when I reinforce the threaded insert. I got the kit direct from Battle Version.

The GKTech braces were $30 plus shipping. They come in either S13 or S14 precut kits to basically box the steel arms to prevent hairline fractures from the original welds. Many people forget when you go solid bushings on everything, no forgiveness means more stress on the arms.

Thanks for all the motivational words guys!

I received some pictures of the final painted pieces. In case you were wondering, the door was damaged during shipping. The latch came loose, swung open at 70mph speeds and actually RIPPED the metal hinges. I guess this supports my idea of the backing plate. Also, because I glued the driver's quarter panel before paint, the holes could not be drilled properly or removed. I pulled a Hulk move and a replacement was needed.

Any new updates on the car?

I fell off the wagon so to speak. I've been spending more time with other hobbies and the GF. I have a renewed sense of focus and basically spend any free time working on the car.

Thank you! I'm assuming you got a suede black from your pictures?

Any tips for applying it? I watch a couple videos and most people were complaining that the coating setup to fast 15mins or so. They said it was hard to hit every place with the fibers?

Im guessing this spray handle help you get more fibers on it?

Absolutely. You MUST turn your air pressure down to 15psi. It's hard because the fibers like to "fall" into place. It is also important to even the glue coverage. I used a small roller from Lowes and a brush for the small crevices. Even glue leads to better results. It is quick (15 mins) but it's plenty of time for a dash. Use horses like I did to elevate your dash so you are able to reach all areas.

You can always use a test piece before hand to see how it applies. LAY IT ON THICK. It's not like paint. There is not runoff. You want as much on the panel as possible. Once it sets after 48 hours, you can shake off the excess. Wth that buy more fibers than you think you'll need. I did my dash with (2) small bags but would have been best to buy one large. I almost ran out. Granted if you use a clean drop clothe to catch the fibers, you can scoop them back into the gun and reuse. Hope this helps.

Has anyone compaired the price of flocking to have a interior shop suede cover our dashes?

I wonder how the cost compares

Flocking = $80 Depending on applicator
Suede Wrap = $400 (quoted)

I will post some pics once I get the switch panel mounted. I am waiting on some hardware.

How well does the flocking hold up to daily use? Was thinking of doing a dash and center console, but I've been wondering how well it would hold up.

I doubt it would hold up to UV over a couple of years. As far as abuse, it can handle every bit of the factory vinyl. Its tuff when applied correctly. The only issue I have heard from others is UV tends to discolor over a long period of time. They were not using suede tex fibers as I am but I would imagine it would still hold true. If used DD, keep a sunshade at all times.

Well to make a long story short I am picking up a new untouched S13 Coupe chassis as I didn't build the cage nor front tube. It's going down this weekend so in the next few weeks I'll post progress pics as I have everything here waiting to be built. All the tube, brackets, frame and other material is ready to go. The cage will be very similar to a popular FD chassis. Sort of a homage to a car that motivated me.

UPS dropped off some goodies today!

As mentioned before, it was time to part ways with the current chassis. The fitment, welds, modifications done by others wasn't up to my standards. Having now purchased thousands worth of fabrication tools to do it myself, its time to start with a clean slate. Still sticking with the S13 Coupe of course, I found pulled one from the clutches of pending doom to resurrect.

Out of curiosity, hat do you do in sales with an ME degree? Studying ME currently and not sure where I want to take it.

On topic: Love a good clean slate, cant wait to see how this ends up given your attention to detail and quality of work.

I have a Bachelors in Civil engineering ( used for 0) and I am a broker. Love it.

You can use that degree anyway you'd like seriously.

As Hatemy7 mentioned, you can use it any way you see fit. I work in the HVAC industry which is a great field to be in as everyone has a need for conditioned space. I am more or less a consultant for engineers who design buildings and sell equipment to building owners. The industry is affected somewhat by the economy as most professions are but with everything from healthcare, education, energy industry, entertainment and industrial, when one is down typically others are up. Be flexible and diversified. If you have people skills and an engineering background you can do anything from sales, management, engineering and even financials if you take a couple of accounting classes. I know several engineers who have went back for business management and started their own company.

Thanks guys!

It will. Just take your time with it. Roll on the glue as smooth as you can, let the flock material "fall" onto the dash, and let dry for 48 Hours before handling it. Done.

Thank you for the tip about the rollers. I need to go buy more materials soon.

couple follow up questions:
-About how far away did you have the can from the dash? 12-18"?
-What PSI did you use on your compressor as well. Flock-it recommended 25-30psi use.

Also any updates on your build man? how is the new chassis coming along??

I applied the flock from the air gun canister @ 18-20 psi. I held the gun roughly 18-20" away to cover a greater area. You will see how it applies after a minute. The only time I got close than a foot was on hard to reach areas. Just remember you can never apply too much. It isn't paint. You want to build up a nice even layer. Shake off the excess and apply more.

The chassis is undergoing the dreaded "fill this spot, weld this hole, shave this, tuck that, remove all needless items" part. Rear quarters are getting welded up and I have begun work on the front firewall. Drivers seat mount is done, passenger bracket will arrive end of this week. I have decided to make them fixed to provide more safety and lowest seating position. The trans tunnel will be modified for greater clearance and removable top to expose the bell housing bolts.

Once this is done I will post some more pics. Once this is completed, the cage work will begin. Then the real excitement (for me anyways) starts lol.
