i'm just wondering what kinda mileage everybody gets, my car's basically stock, 2000 km on rebuilt motor and i'm getting roughly 150kms on a tank:eek: and any ideas on things to do to get better mileage?

16 city, 24 hwy.

To get better gas milage, drive like you have no brakes at all. You will add 5 MPG to each tank... Thats miles not klicks.

Hitting the brakes burns off your engine power you spent gas for to get there...driving like you have no brakes, coasting to stops and not doing hard accelerations is the key.

Or for the lazy..

Read their FAQ.

It helps.

I got 440 miles (not klicks) out of one tank once this way.

I actually, burn gas for the thrill of it as well.

about ~ 400 miles on full tank gas base on all high way running @ 75 miles or 3k rpm on 5th gear and i shift every 3k rpm sometimes 4k

ditto

also change your fuel filter and plugs (or just clean and regap them so often)

i found that helps slightly.

although a dirty air filter was killing my mileage for a while...

24-25 city (ish) during the school year, 27 or so now with my longer highway commute to work. 29-31 when I'm travelling. For 160k miles, I think that's damn fine.

Anyhow, to improve mileage, take some weight out of your foot. Accellerate slower, cruise more. Driving style is really the biggest impact on gas mileage (hence huge differences between city and highway driving). Filters are biggies too, air and fuel. If they haven't been replaced recently, do it. Plugs should be checked. MAFS and O2 sensors could effect it as well.

somehow i feel after i did my tune up ie. replace fuel filter.. air filter. plugs and wires. my gas milege drops a lot but i haven't really calculated it tho. just feel it that way and is so weird. btw before my tune up my engine was about 125~130k that was like 6 months ago and now is 144k   :wtc:  god damn... i hate commuting.

Hay i'm in the peg also

Last year i was getting 350kms to a full tank of gas and i though that was bad, now i get 550kms to a tank of gas and i'm not complaining anymore, andi'm heavy footed. Mind you, a stock one should be getting around 450-500kms per tank.

First change your O2 sensor. When i did this i noticed a bit of difference, got about 25kms more per tank.

The factor that mad the difference on my car was when i changed my ECU. I really don't know why, but i had a JWT ECU, and it was a gas hog, put back in a normal stock one, and got 800kms on the highway (drove from Winnipeg to Saskatoon in one shot) Then i got the JWT ECU reprogrammed and now i'm fine again. go figure.

I pulled 34.5 MPG HWY about 538 miles and the low fuel light came on at about 525 on the last long trip I took... That was also with the windows closed, sunroof opened and no A/C. 144K mile bone stock KA24DE with K&N panel filter. I find it also helps not to rip on it until the motor gets warmed up. I also run Premium gas (93 octane) and find that makes a difference in how the motor runs and how much milage I get on a tank. Usually I get around 28 MPG except on long trips.

just did my calculation over the past 2 days, i got almost exactly 21 mpg, with a mix of city and highway. i go through about a tank every 2 days, since i have no job, all i do is drive. kinda sucks for the wallet, but its worth it.

I don't know brutha. I mean there are lots of factors to look into. Like hard stopping, hard acceleration, A/C usage, leaky injectors (fire), fuel filter, Bad O/2 sensors, fouled plugs, bad tire pressure, and so on.

Just revisiting your post, I do not know how I could burn 16 gallons of gas in less than 100 miles. Full out all the time underload on a track doing top speed, I get 12MPG which means 300KM.

Something is either inaccurate, or leaking like a sieve.

I used to get 20/28 on my 140K Mile KA

i'm not leaking anything anywhere, i ran from completely full to completely empty, as in died because of lack of gas and i got a whopping 173kms:eek: tommorow the car's going back to the shop because my car sounds like a tank now. so i'm assuming they screwed something up when they did the rebuild

I think the SOHC KA motor is the most innefficient motor ever created. I managed to get about 15-16mph in Los Angeles city driving. Highway driving had a SIGNIFICANT increase in efficiency (yeah right), about 20-21 at the most (yawn).

My RB motor gets about 350 to the tank.

DID YOU KNOW: The throttle is an analog control, with an infinite range of positions between open and closed? Heh heh...

The only time I got less than 20mpg was the time my AIV got messed up and I was belching raw gas out the exhaust.
