so every morning i go to my garage and it smells of gas and is strong enough to seep through the garage door and make it to the third floor of my house.

replaced fuel pump with a walbro 255 and replaced the oring with an OEM one.

car runs and idles at a healthy 800rpm and still gets 23mpg.

any ideas?!

i was thinking that it could be the fact i tore out my EGR or that i'm running straight pipe?

thanks for any suggestions/comments/experiences!

btw it's an SR if that makes a difference

i was going to say that you were probably running rich like me with my 12 whole miles per gallon, but never mind.

haha i know. death due to gas fumes from car.

also the tank, from what i understand, isn't leaking pressure cause i undid my gas cap today and it hissed EXTRA hard.

so suggestions to get a A/F gauge or something?

you need a FPR.

you need a FPR.

yeah that makes sense too but could you explain the dynamics behind your reasoning?

just curious :D

Walbro fuel pump is so strong that it flows more fuel than the stock regulator can handle.
before a fpr pressure is 46psi with the vac hose attatched and 56psi with the vaccum line off.
factory is 36psi with and 44 psi without.
with a Adjustable FPR you can change that

nismo FPR.
Check some of the sponsors on this site.
they range from $120 to $134

oh and there is type A and type B
Type A is a direct fit for Sr/ka's
Type B i believe you need more hoses and adapters....Go type A

and do you adjust accordingly since there isn't a gauge?

T off of the fuel pressure line going into the regulator and you will need a fuel pressure guage (pretty cheap)

also check your soft line before you start buying parts

right under the fuel filter canister
these are cracked on old 240's
reach under the canister, rub your hand along the bottom of the rubber line, feel/smell gas replace it

If it just smells like gas for no reason, then chances are one of the rubber lines coming from the fuel tank are cracked/leaking. It is pretty common on these old buckets.

Yes^

Check the two fuel lines coming from the fuel pump assembly. It is a common problem that people can tear or break the lines when removing them and slipping them back onto the fittings. Also, check the same rubber lines from the fuel tank all the way back to the body's hard lines underneath.

My rubber lines from the tank to the hard lines are cracked...Are the rubber lines under the car easy to replace or should I take my 40 to a shop for that?

Just do it yourself

I would definitely look into the lines but also the o-ring on the fuel assembly, they can stretch out over time letting gasoline fumes into the car. FPR switch is never a bad Idea either. Inspect the problem from the root, the gas tank and make your way to the front by checking lines, fuel pressure, then move on to the engine bay checking your filter/rail/FPR/injectors etc.

from the tank to the hard lines are a bitch, i've always had to lower the tank to get them off. but if your pretty good at working with tools do it yourself.

Thanks guys. One line had some extra slack so I was able to fix it by cutting off the leaky part and reattaching it. The 2nd line is split in the middle and will need to be replaced...lower the tank eh? no fun lol but I'll do it.
