i have a rhd 180sx. so i tried to plug in multiple pre(97-98) sr20det ecus and the car never started. i looked at the seat beats to see the manufacture date to get a ruff idea when the car was assembled, and it belt says 1996. so i pull off the wiring harness and find out the motor is a type-x (J4) and i seen a post to rewire a j4 harness to a pre(97-98) .. and i searched . and only to find pre(97-98) to j4 . can any one help me find the right way to rewire it. thanks a lot .

i keep finding code 62 and 35 to j4 .. but i cant find a write up on j4 to 62 or e5. im sure i can just re-pin it by looking at both pin outs. but i want to see if there is a write up.

^^^Its the same thing going j4 to e5 or 65 and vice versa. All it is is 4 or 5 pin that needs to be swap going either way.

If you goto 62 or e5 change to small O2and red top ecu water temp.It will run rich if you don't.

I was in camarillo but now i am back to norcal, stockton to be exact. If you have the tuned ecu, just repin the ecu plug. And as mentioned above by rubhamusan, i do believe the o2 sensor should be changed. your blacktop uses the fat o2 sensor, or atleast it should, and the red top uses skinny type.

I am not really sure tho because the e5's are the older blacktop model.

what? you tuned an ecu that didn't work for you to begin with?

He never said anything about tuning the ecu himself. he simply stated that he wants to repin the plugs on the harness from j4's to e5 and vice verse. He probably has like a rom tune on the ecu he wants to use.

what? you tuned an ecu that didn't work for you to begin with?i've had many sr20s and have parts left over, and i now i have a rhd 180sx type-X and it didn't come with a ecu so instead of buying a stock j4 ecu for the type-x i can use my tuned code 62 from a red top. it's hard to find a tuned j4 ecu(rare) and i bet it cost a pretty Pennie . compared to pre-(97-98) sr20s.
