sigh, usdm and jdm license plate dimensions and screw hole locations are different. Only way a usdm license plate will install on a jdm bumper is to drill holes or use/make brackets.

Weren't they talking about creating or modifying a bracket? Wouldn't it be best to start with a bracket that fits your plate, and find where it doesn't mount correctly? Then, modify according? That is what I was getting at.

If you are talking about the pic of the red kouki sofa king posted, those are cobra deep dish wheels. They just look to be a bit darker than normal, might be black chrome, or something towards that finish that is throwing off the normal look a bit.

Yup, those wheels...the cap just look like Rotas to me and I found these:

Yup I know what you mean. They are similar but I remembered that on the p45r3's the spokes taper in where they meet the lip, where as the cobras do not. I think I would like the rotas more if the spokes where shaped more like the cobras.

Thanks dude. They are silver and I dropped back down to 17's for more meaty tire action. If anyones considering the Dunlop z2 they are an awesome tire. Very sticky for a street tire.

I think Star Specs run about right, I've run nothing but Z1s for the last 6 yrs for my fronts (225/40-18s) and they seemed to be undersized compared NT01, NT05 and Michelin PSS.

when you get your flca situation under control your car will sit lower due to the proper camber setting :)

I think it was more of a run on gag of him being a generic street sweeper build, or trying to hype his car. I've seen more pictures of this car parked than I've seen of my actual car parked all dirty in it's space. Not to mention the yakosuka nights esq door sticker now.

I have no desire to put it into a wall or chip up the paint on a poorly paved gravely track every weekend. I know AK drifts and stuff and he has posted plenty of drifting pictures but just saying this from another perspective. The hard parking pictures are cool in my book too. I've been into these cars since people had a much different view of them (before drifting) and can appreciate doing something other than what every 18 year old kid with $10,000 wants to do with this new found "disposable" view on cars. As long as you have pride in your work do whatever the fuck you want, just don't push any kind of agenda on others. Besides there's already plenty of threads in the media section for videos etc. and the action thread in chat.

This entire forum has turned into a place where if you don't drift your car its completely worthless and "you're not using your car for what it was designed for" NEWS FLASH these cars were designed to be drivers cars, not drift sluts. If you want to build your car for that then more power to you, its your car, but damn I'm tired of the hate towards those of us that actually appreciate our cars and admire the looks of them and the performance on back roads without sliding around every corner. If someone wants to build a track car let them build a track car, if they want to build a car that LOOKS like a drift car but is a parking lot whore let them do that. That's what makes us all unique. Its just a shame that building a nice clean street cruiser out of a 240 is suddenly frowned upon by our community.

Thank you for those with kind words, I've had my s14 since 2004 and it's seen track all over the country, this past few years has been tough for me so my track car has seen very little progress on the tracks but I'm dying to get back out there. I use to drive pro am series drift 411 so my car has seen it's abuse and hard driven, most of you guys like to talk shit because I'm not stanced out or frame on the floor with -21 degrees of camber. Who cares, we all built our cars to please ourselves, no everyone else.

AK, just out of curiosity have you managed to get this thing on the track since you re-did it white? I think thats the reason you got haters right now. Car's not exactly a hard parker/show car and people are not appreciating it since its not being tracked.

Thats the reason I dont post my car on here...its a POS thats not clean enough in my opinion with rattle canned paint. Maybe next summer when I get back, itll get some real paint.

I agree 100%. I've also been into these cars before anyone in the US knew was drifting was. Being in my late 30's these cars were new on the street when I was in highschool and it was the car you wanted if you couldn't find an old Z. Not all of us have this burning desire to drift the shit out of our cars. Some of us enjoy looking at them, and just driving them. This entire forum has turned into a place where if you don't drift your car its completely worthless and "you're not using your car for what it was designed for" NEWS FLASH these cars were designed to be drivers cars, not drift sluts. If you want to build your car for that then more power to you, its your car, but damn I'm tired of the hate towards those of us that actually appreciate our cars and admire the looks of them and the performance on back roads without sliding around every corner. If someone wants to build a track car let them build a track car, if they want to build a car that LOOKS like a drift car but is a parking lot whore let them do that. That's what makes us all unique. Its just a shame that building a nice clean street cruiser out of a 240 is suddenly frowned upon by our community.

Majority of these "haters" didn't even have a clue what a 240 was until drifting became popular. Guys like myself who has owned a 240 from 10+ years ago are the ones who appreciate them the most.

This is interesting. Not masa. Fitment looks kinda jank, but it is an s13.4 so who knows.

It's actually the same hood that was/is on Nakagawa's 180 (blue review car). But he stated his was masa, which it definitely isn't. Pretty certain he didn't even know what he had.

Last pic for awhile :wan:. Until it's pretty much where I want it at least. Still have a ways to go.

Put jdm window visors on, some stickers, lowered the rear. Then busted an axle, subframes sitting on toe rods, toe rod nuts making contact with lower coilover brackets, ect, ect.. Pretty much fixed all of that. Just waiting on a new rear setup from stance so I can properly go a lot lower without drooping.

I need some opinions on tire sizes peoples.

I'm currently running 225/40/18 on 18x9.5 +12 all around. I have PLENTY of clearance out back, but I can't go any lower in the front without rubbing the harness (already tucked). I used to rub everywhere on my 245/40/18's. Also, my HKS Hi Power has shit for clearance, so if i'm slammed, the axle flange will basically be .5 inches if not lower, from the ground.

I am stuck between running:

215/35/18
Pros- Car is lower, can slide 215s with stock ka, less/no rubbing, doesn't need as much camber
Cons- Roads here SUCK, MASSIVE speed bumps at school that are unavoidable, if i get pulled over for ride height and need to lift it, this tire size would look goofy as fuck when not slammed, low grip


235/35/18 or 245/35/18
Pros- More grip, fills in front fenders better than small tires, looks good slammed or not, beefy tires look awesome, not scared of speed bumps due to higher ride height
Cons- Can't slide, Can't go as low, will PROBABLY rub harness or inner fender if even decently low (not sure though, if anyone has this size that can chime in, please do), requires more camber



BASICALLY i'm trying to figure out if I want to be slammed or have wider tires and more functional ride height. I love both styles equally, and both have basically the same amount of pros and cons. My major priority is to not rub.

It's my daily driver which I drive pretty hard for the most part. I rarely ever slide (and even if i do, i only make enough power to slide in first gear), and enjoy grip just as much as I enjoy drifting, but grip is arguably more dangerous due to higher speeds and understeer potential.


So I ask this: which do you think I should run and why? Which will look better with my aero (jdm front no lip, navan skirts, navan valances)?

I would go with 215/35-18 front and 215/40-18 or 225/40-18 rear and moar low and rewire your harness through the engine bay.

and i'm asking about my s14 kouki? I'm not talking strictly tire sizes. i'm talking performance, ride height, purpose, etc. and directly about my car. If it was a zenki, i'd go with the bigger tires because that's how I like zenkis that aren't kitted. Koukis have completely different styling to them though and look alot better slammed on oem aero as compared to zenkis. obviously this is all personal opinion though. That's why i'm not sure which route to take, because koukis pull off both really well, and i like both styles alot.

It sounds like you need to relocate that engine harness into the engine bay.

So I had to go back to 225/40/18 (which I hate because it rubs my fender arches. I'm going back to 17s because of this.

You should be able to slide 225/40/18. I can, you're either not going fast enough or trying to power over on a stock KA24DE (LOL) kick the clutch and tell me you can't slide it.

I can respect this, and yes, this isn't a show car nor a hard parker, and I haven't been able to take it out on the track yet either after the rebuild. The motor originally came out of my brothers s13 so im getting all the problems and kinks out of it. I originally was going LS since I was competing with my car but this last three years have been tough for me and my family so ive been helping as much as I can at home so I had to cut the LS project shorts and ive been so busy with my new(not so new anymore) job, ive been delaying getting the car ready for the tracks with the built sr20 I have in the car now. slowly but surely im getting the kinks out of it. very little left so expect to see action shots before the end of the year. Trust me, all my friends are hating on me too with all these parked photos.

yes i'm asking what tire set up i should use. thats it. since I like both styles, I might as well see what other people like, right? It's the same as going to a restaurant and asking the waiter what they would recommend. They like it, because they've experienced it.

based on a tire calculator that I used (includes stretch), no matter what, i'm going to be running much smaller tires with a 35 series than i'm currently running. So i just want people's opinions on what would look better, meaty tires +my current ride height, or smaller tires and slammed.

I'm currently running that same set up front. It rubbed my harness but my friend tucked it better and it was fine.

Older vid, he blows up his overs all the time, and mostly drifts without the front bumper on the car. I guess the convenience of living in the home of bn is he doesn't get taxed an extra 500 dollars on replacing a set and can probably buy one side at a time.

well you could get the core support right, even though it's not even necessary to change. It can still be off, the bash bar is what will determine sag or not, that little foam protector also raises the bumper a few mm. gravity is definitely going to have an effect.

gotta measure, test fit, measure test fit, tac weld test fit, measure, finish up and boom lol

whoever did my conversion did none of this, eyeballed the spot welds instead of properly measuring and I know I'm a few mm off on mine. Drives me insane.

Rubbing/scraping whatever same thing. 245/40/18 is huge. I'd never run that on my car, anti-drift for me.

If you start bogging, kick the clutch to keep your revs up. Ka needs to stay/be above 4k to really spin the tires.

it's a little more complicated than that. panel bond is as strong as structural welding. So if you blow up an over it's a real bitch to replace. There are some not so permanent bonding solutions out there but who the hell would want that.
