what is it you need help with every swap is the same.

custom engine mounts/tranny mounts
custom driveshaft
anything needed from the original car to get the engine running
power supply
fuel
and hope you love to do wiring correctly

put the motor and tranny in and use the engine bay as your guide to position it then make the mounts. bolt it in. get a driveshaft shop to make you one.

then wire the bitch up using both fsms.

put the battery in

go to a gas station. fill it up with 93. squeegee your windows. wink at the hot chick.

start it up and your done 3 years later.

oh and also

1) get the vg30dett theres no point in swaping in the n/a motor might as well put a vq in.

2) why would you bump a 36 min old thread?

haha woops...anywho your better off getting the details on a different site like HybridZ (http://www.hybridz.org/)

its not a bolt in procedure and there are no kits made.

just letting you realize this is gonna be a trial and error process everyone has a different take on it. and it wil cost you 7k plus on the swap even with a free motor.

So if you know that the swap is an entirely custom job with no known available parts, and everything you do will be trial and error, what are you asking for?

There's nothing anyone can tell you that you don't already know. It's not an OE engine for that chassis, so everything you do will be one off. Just like putting any non OE spec engine into any other chassis.

Until LS1s became popular, how do you think people put them in? Guesswork. No one is going to do it for you, if you're not capable of doing it, back away from the project.

I don't know about you guys, I like my vg. granted it's a boosted one... But unless you like custom work and have a welder and decent skills, this is not a beginner swap. I would really recommend going with an ls series motor. I believe there are companies who sell mount kits for them. There is something to be said for free but does it come with everything you need? also what about custom mounts and driveshaft? it's not free anymore... doh.

Wow I didn't think the VG30 would actually FIT in the 280z engine compartment...

All I've got to say is good luck and keep us updated. That just doesn't sound like much of a fun swap. But hey, to each his own. Document every step and don't give up, good luck.

Its gonna be a pain no doubt. What do you have with the motor? The engine harness? computer? what tranny? Is it the tranny that was in the Z? Is there gonna be a swap with the rear end to? I ask these questions to try and understand what you have and what you need, not to sound like an idiot. I just would like to know. I cant go to stockton but I might be ablle to help you though zilvia.

Interestingly enough, you could use the stock fuel injection from the 280Z to run the VG. The ignition would require an ignition box compatible with the factory pickup. Custom mounts and driveshaft, of course. A lot of work to keep the balance right, clear the steering etc, and get the shifter to line up...

vg30e will fit in a datsun 510....so it'll definately fit in an s30 chassis. you can fit anything in a s30 chassis. if a v8 fits in it with room to spare then why wouldn't a v6?

i've done a vg30e swap into an 87 mazda rx7 :) he just used the v8 mount kits and got a custom driveshaft. i'm not saying you can go and get the motorsport auto $250 v8 mount kit and it's gonna bolt right up so don't waste your money yet. do some research on HybridZ (http://www.hybridz.org)

for the wiring i have no problem making you a plug and play harness if you like, pm me for details. i just finished an rb26 into a 350z with working guages etc, pics are in the "z owners step in" thread

anywho pm if you need me

EJ series Subarus are about the only ones I know of. I have seen Jag V12's, LSx Chevies, Big Block stuff, Ford Modular, Honduhs, blah blah.

I used to have a 93 Z32 NA. That engine is very underrated. Its not the fastest car ever, but torque is really nice and its very reliable. I'd love to see it swapped into a smaller car.
