I used 5.25 but 6.5's will fit too. Just make sure you get shallow speakers or you won't be able to roll the window down.

I made a bracket and have good old 6x9's in my car. Not an easy task I tell you that.:p

I've read the posts where people share what speakers they have/recommend but does anyone have some known brand/model 6.5's that don't fit?

you might want to check out crutchfield.com, they have the depths of most major brands on their site. Of course, how deep of a speaker you can fit depends on how you mount it. if you did half inch mdf buildouts, you would have a half inch more room...

mdf buildout is what I sent a pic of. I answered your PM on how to build one.

I'm finally installing my 3-way CDT component set, tweet and mid range in kick panel and mid bass in door. Depending on how much work you're willing to do you can fit almost anything in the front (I watched a guy install 10" subs in the front doors for example) Right now I'm about to start fiberglassing the kick panel fronts (rears are done).

Anywho, give me some details about how much money, time and patience u have and I'll help u out w/ the setup.

tens? mwha ha ha I put image dynamics IDW 15's in the kicks of my escort.

anyway I've gotten some pm's from others who wanted to know how to do "mdf buildouts" its really pretty simple.

I took the stock door panels off, the speakers are in plastic housings. I traced the outlines of the plastic housings onto a piece of 1/2" medium density fiberboard, marking where the screw holes were. I cut the wood with a jigsaw along the lines and predrilled the holes. I applied a product you can get at lowes, "peel and seal" to the rear and front of the baffles, as it helps seal the baffle to the door and prevent buzzing.
I used "XTC foam baffles" from crutchfield to protect the back of the speaker from moisture.
Then I screwed the baffle into the door, using the stock screw holes, wired up the the speakers, screwed the woofer into the mdf (predrilled the holes for that one too) over the baffle, and reinstalled the door panel.

and the final product looks like the pic on my webpage, that was taken with the door panel off.

Make sure when you make your mounting piece, you give yourself clearance from the door panel. I didn't notice it. After I was finished, I put the door panel on, and my door panel rubs against my foam of the speaker, making it sound distorted. It really ****ed me off.

yes, that is very important! if you run into clearance issues with the door panel you can always cut the door panel or even fiberglass in a new grill, but thats a little more advanced. the 240 really has enough room that I'm putting most any 6.5's would fit if you added clearance by trimming the door panel or putting in a different speaker grill.
