did u try adjusting the CAS? thats the major thing that sticks out in my mind. going from 272 to 272 isnt necessarily the same. is the lift duration the same? which step are the hks cams?

dont know if this helps but i to have cams and had issues when i installed them.

only thing u can do is check the part number from where u got them
i bought some cams from a dude on club240. he said they were hks 264 step 2. i installed them and BAM! motor was rebuilt after that. never went after the guy, but then i bought brand new hks 264 Step 2 cams from enjuku racing. installed them, fire the car up with no issues at all.

i called hks usa in cali and gave them all the numbers on the cams, and they said they had no idea what i was talking about.
make sure your timing chain didnt skip a tooth down below.

today i had a shop my cousin go to reinstall the cams and it turned out the same. the intake cam was slightly used and the exhaust was brand new. is it possible the exhaust cam is a manufacturer defect. we smelled alot of oil too. the guy is telling me that one of the cams may be keeping the vales open longer than it supposed to. if anyone heard of this lmk

i think you need to take them to a machine shop and have them measured. sounds like u have 2 different cams or something
