Ok, I was watching " TRUCKS!" on TNN? i think, anyways, this guy was modding this chevy truck [ very nice ] and he was messing w/ the exhaust system 1st the custom made the whole thing and he put a flex pipe in there so the pipes would have some slack to flex so they wont bend that was pretty cool, then he installed this gizmo that had a sliding mechanism hooked up to a serperate dump pipe that was installed on the side of the truck, he said that when some1 pulls up to you and revs, you can hit the switch and your exhaust system will convert from a cat back to a open exhaust and since you don't want to always ride around w/ a open exhaust [ cops ] you can just hit the switch agian, and it will go back to normal.

Man that thing was cool, I was just wondering if anyone has seen this done before and if this applies to all cars? Also where would one go to purchase one of those neat things.

Thanks.

Muscle car guys have been doing that for ages.

You have multiple types including hand removes, manual open and close and electric. Summit sells them for descent prices.

Yeah, aren't they called cutouts or something like that. The main drawback I would see from something like that is that it would seriously disturb the airflow through your normal exaust and create alot of turbulence.

I doubt that unless you were making lots of hp It would really be worth it to unbolt it everytime you go to the track

Might get one for fun if it were not so expensive.

i see how it might be more restrictive on your normal exhaust, but with it open when you want the extra umpf wouldn't it be worth it? Also why would you need to unbolt it at the track? is it against track rules to run with a open exhaust?

When i was in virginia visiting virginia tech i went to a car club show also. There was a s13 coupe with an sr runnin a setup like that, normal catback and with the flip of a switch in the cabin it was diverted and the dumppipe was opened.
