every time i shift into fifth gear, it grinds as it goes into gear. it does it less at lower speeds, but it's still there, every time. only happens going into fifth gear.

any ideas???

how long have you had your car? how long has it been making these sounds? mileage? original clutch?

My Nissan mech said that you can tell your clutch is going out when the clutch gets higher and higher. Anyways, if it is way up there, as compared with new, then this could be your problem.

Could be the syncro's in 5th gear. Sounds like it's time for a new clutch.

get the clutch master cylinder checked out
my slave cylinder went out last night and let me tell you how much it sucked
Im getting off the highway last night at around 50 and i go to down shift into 4th and it grinded a little so i let out the clutch and push it back in as i push it in it hits the floor and wont come back up i say to my self f*ck!!
pull over and pull the clutch off the floor and push it back in, nothing
i look under the car and there is some oil spilling out so i call a tow truck and ask for a flat bed
So 3 hours later it showes up he stepes out looks at the car tures to me and says i cant tow this "the front end is to low it is only 4" off the ground"
i say to him that i will get it on and that he is not responsable for any damages well now the tow hooks that i made r going to be tested got the car up with no prob. getting it off was the hard part i bent the tow hooks and sratched the air #### pritty good , man that was a fun night?!
And im not going to be able to get the part till monday

get it checked out

try double clutching into 5th gear. I'm not a mechanic, but I'd imagine this would tell you if your synchro's were going... cuz if they were, you'd get into 5th fine by double clutching.

Again, i'm not a mechanic

double clutching doesn't help any at all, it does it no matter how well i match the rpm's. i think i'm starting to feel the clutch slipping when i shift to second. the car has 120,000miles and i'm pretty sure it has the original clutch.

double clutching is for down shifting not up shifting

If your clutch is gone, you will be able to smell a really strong, sweet odor. Drive around with all the windows open (sunroof too) and look for the smell.

double clutching is for upshifting too
truck drivers always use it, cuz semi's dont have syncros
so they double clutch to keep the speeds of the axles spinning at the speed of the motor
downshifting double clutching is something else
remember in fast and furious? (i kno really bad example but)
when the popo in disguise was racing wit all dem laptops and when he lost, the buff guy wuz all "single clutching like a grandma" or whatever, and i'm sure he wouldnt START the race in 5th gear and DOWNShift rite? so yea
