Just like the title says, when I'm driving and coming to a stop I push in my clutch, the RPMs drop and my belts squeal. The RPMs drop when the clutch is in whether it is in gear or not. Any ideas?

It's a 1992 240SX, 80K mile engine, new belts.

tighten your belts to get rid of squeeling. new belts stretch a bit and need retightening a few days after install.

rpm drops like up and down (800...600....900....600...etc) or drops like 800 down to 200 (stalls)?

Now I just need to look and see how to tighten these belts... any help appreciated. I really need a shop manual for this car.

Drop down low and level off, car won't stall and they don't fluctuate, I'm just not familiar with a vehicle that drops RPMs when the clutch is depressed.

How far do they drop, the RPM's, and where does it rest at and idle? Another thing that could help is what kind of engine do you have? It could be something with the crank angle sensor, (if you have one), it could be your idle sensor on the intake manifold, (not sure of the 'proper name') or it could even be your throttle adjustment screw. Some more details would make it easier to answer your questions.

im still confused.
im in gear
i put clutch in RPMs drop and at the point where i set idle at they idle

all cars do that i thought?
its not
in gear
clutch in
RPMs hold at wherever they were before clutch was in

or are you talking
in neutral
rpms at wherever (let's say 800)
put clutch in
drop to 600 RPM
release clutch
goes up to 800 RPM

???

At idle I think I am around 1000-800rpm, it idles about where it is suppose to. When they drop it's under 800 rpm, below normal idle, but not low enough to stall it.

Another thing that could help is what kind of engine do you have?

Sorry KA24DE engine out of '91 240, just placed into my '92 240 a week ago.

The clutch master cylinder was replaced. The clutch is a spec stage 1 clutch that's a few months old.

no normal idle is like 700ish RPM iirc
1000 is WAY too high

mine idles at 750-800 (i set it that way)

I believe factory spec idle is 600 +/- 50 for MT and 750 for automatic. 1000RPM is way too high for idling!

This is exactly what happens.

Please excuse my 1000rpm comment, I'm idling at around 800.

Sup muskrat. Um...same thing happens to my car. Did you already give it a tune up? I mean, checked the sparkplugs etc...

The engine/tranny was just put in, it has about 80K miles on it. When it was put in the fluids/filters were changed. Haven't checked plugs, but I don't see what plugs would have to do with the clutch. The engine runs/drives fine.

hmmm... mine's always done that.

I clutch in, revs drop down to ~600 then level off at 750.

I never really paid it any mind since the car runs perfectly.

We're talking at regular temperature...in the middle that is...not hot or cold right? im thinking that could cause a discrepency. Also if theres not enuff or a lotta load on the belts, you know for your water pump p/s ac ...etc If the belts arent tight enuff you could ilde higher and if they are too tight idle lower. I think the belts should have 1/4inch bend if u push on um
