Would their be any problems running BKR7E-11 on a stock redtop sr20det?
I did that to try to minimize the occurence of knock. I want to run more boost after I upgrade my fuel system. Thanks

detonation maybe?

knock sounds like a high pitch "tick"
loose nut is probably just a loose nut, but try to fix it, cause it might be something important.

It sounds like when you shake a rattle can with the little ball in there.....i dont know where to start i changes my plugs to one step colder, like what i said previousely stated.

How would you tell detonation ?

Sounds like marbles in a coke can. Colder plugs=colder burn. The best thing to do IMO is use the best quality gas and retard the timing 1-2 deg and run the colder plug and you should be fine.

What gas are you using ?
Are you running a stk ecu ?

How much boost are you running to begin with on what turbo. If you're running more than 10 psi, change to 7s. Make sure those spark plugs are gapped down to .030-.028

stock t25..totally stock setup, intercooled and i have a catback, sotck boost 7lbs

The plugs are gapped at .036 on all.

As they said change your gap... colder plugs will work and look at ngk as they have a plug guide to see what the plugs are telling you. Just monitor it. If you see silver sparkly stuff on the porcelain, you are definitely knocking, but overall I ran 11psi daily with fuel system upgrades, and never really had a problem. But the T25's don't like it too much... lol

OK so take them out and regap them ?

go buy some new from the dealer (22401-20J07) and re-gap to .28-.30

The T-25 is totally safe for 11psi and more actually. The stock Silvia boost this much in the stock configuration...

Stock boost on any SR20DET is not 7psi

am I reading right that you are running Sr20 with stock KA fuel pump? Maybe you should invest in a higher flow pump first. That sound could well be fuel starvation/knock

what about running hotter spark plugs in a stock sr? the previous owner had bkr5e spark plugs in my current sr. i been driving like that for over a year now. the spark plugs are really clean when i took them out. so is there a problem running hotter plugs in a stock sr?

warauto
07-27-2009, 07:12 PM
Yes i am going to buy some new plugs and regap them, as for running hotter plugs i had bkr5e-11 in the car for about a year and my car stuttered horribly when i went into boost....a set of colder plugs did the trick wonderfully.....

Their has been a debate about stock boost for a while, 11lbs or 7.5lbs, with or without solenoid, i dont know what is what I didn't get a front clip with an sr to know stock boost, so i just picked 7lbs as stock. My car runs 7lbs that seems a fair recipient for stock boost.

Well I changed the gapping on the plugs to 0.030, so we will see if their is any difference. Anyway I couldn't help noticing something, I took all the plugs out. On inspection i noticed 3 of them where white, no signs of knocking, thats the good thing
but one wasn't white at all.....I didn't remember what cylinder i got it from either. It was black almost like a stock look, like it wasnt firing....what could this be ?

^^ key question, are you running stock fuel pump running higher boosts?

How bout the other question then, stock fuel pump or aftermarket? It usually helps to read a post fully, and understand what someone is saying, before you make another post.

we typically use the BKR6E plugs in a stock SR

On my 91 Silvia with the solenoid it's 11psi, ~7psi without it. That was in the 100% stock configuration.

EDIT: I run BKR7E's on my stock redtop, just because I'm running more boost, it's tuned for more aggressive AFR's, and timing.

Gap them down some more. .028 or .025 if you still think its knocking.

Also, take some pix of the plugs and let us see them.

About the pics, I will be changing the plugs to BKR6E-IX in about 3 weeks or so; the reason for doing this is because the BKR7E-11 are fairly new. I will take pics after a week of using the new plugs and mrk the cylinder from which the plug came from.

I have yet another problem, when i come to a stop my throttle bogs down almost the the point that It seems my engine is going to shut off.

I encountered this problem when I was venting my BOV to the atmosphere....The major difference in then and now is that it doesn't run rich when it bogs down it just
bogs....I am wondering if it't the plugs.

Are you still running open atmosphere BOV?

warauto

No I recirculated it a long time ago, but the symptoms were the same as when it wasn't recirculated. Not too sure where to go from here....

stupid question, ive been trying to find bkr7e-11 for a while, my auto parts stores dont carry them or cant get them, does the valley just suck period?

im running bkr5e-11 with a .28 gap, and im having bogging issues, would this be the cause?

dude, check your fuel pump. your KA fuel pump is not equipt to handle fuel demands of a boosted engine. You are probably leaning to the point of knock when you are WOT

I will change the fuel pump in that case, has anyone ever used the circuit sports fuel pump ?

I was going to go walbro 255 but a buddy told me that teh circuit sports
255 is the same thing as the walbro only cheaper....And they have a kit for it for my s14

By the wat has anyone ever tried, a 350z fuel pump before or a 300zx TT one on their SR.

Maybe i am leaning out at wide open throttle but can i be leaning out driving regularly ?
