what is the engine temp sensor circuit and where is it located on a 1990 s-13 coupe it came up when i checked the codes

Find your where the #1 injector branches off the main wiring harness, and follow the main stem of the wiring harness a few inches forward, untill you see a short branch that goes to a red plug. The red plug is going into the engine temp sensor.

isnt that a coolent temp sensor? how do you get the the connector off?

If it is the coolant temp sensor...

There's a little metal clip that slides over the harness securing it to the sensor. The clip is just a thin wire shaped in a 'U'. Just pull the clip off w/needle nose and then the harness should come off fairly easily. Make sure to put the clip back in or the sensor won't read right. -I couldn't figure out why my gauge wasn't working, turns out that I was missing the clip, so the harness didn't seat well enough and I wasn't getting any signal.
