i have a 89 240SX SOHC (yeah, it's an auto)with currently no mod's beside removing the Y-Pipe....lately i've been having some problem when i stop completly..then when i get on the throttle the engine RPM drops below 500 and it feels like it's gonna die??..i don't know if this has anything to do with the exhaust system, is it? Because i loosen up right where the cat connects to the rear half..but i did put it back and it started doing this..I changed the spark plug and it got a bit better but it still dies sometyme and the RPM still sumtyme drop...PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!

Did you have a professional look at it yet?

Once the problem gets to the point where it hurts to think about what it really is, I go to Nissan.

konkman, that sound very similar to a prob I was having... go on 240sx.org and try some of the suggestions there, it helps me out A LOT, and any time you can avoid a trip to the mechanic is automatically at least $100 you get to keep in your pocket (sad how that seems to work out these days, ;P hehee). Here are some links a few articles I found useful:

http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/idleirreg.htm

http://www.240sx.org/faq/articles/idleproblem.htm

Hope they help solve your prob. There's also a ton other other info other there taht might help ya, once u get an idea of where to start looking <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I had the same problem with my 90 240sx along time ago and it turns out that my Mass Air Sensor was shot and it destroyed my O2 Sensor so if I were you I would definately take it to nissan and if it is the mass air sensor expect to pay around $350, and $95 for the o2 sensor.

check these first
the vacuum hoses off the intake, make sure they r not snagged (they often tie themselves up) then check your MAFS...
i'll be glad to steal u one out of a junkyard if u need....

I've got a '91 and RPMs drop to about 500 or so for about a second when I just stop. It idles weird if I'm sitting on my brakes in neutral. Also, RPMs drop if I slow down in gear before I drop it to neutral and stop. Weird. I don't let it bother me too much, I've got a 10-y-o car, I don't expect perfection. Try doing the same! <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Hmm... can't say I agree with that comment... Fixing things as soon as you feel it is what keeps an old car in good condition forever.

Why not raise your idle, just unscrew the (i can't remember the name for it) ???idle screw??? anyway it should look like a screw thats in the throttle body and has a spring in it. I know that's not a real good description but hey it's an idea.

a mechanic can change ur idle in like 30 seconds take it to him, but ur 02 sensor on the cat may have come loose, check that out.

Why goto a mechanic when you can do it yourself in like 2 second's? Here's the instruction's step #1 See the idle screw &nbsp; Step #2 Unscrew the screw alittle <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

I plan to do an SR20DET swap, so, I don't want to waste money fixing anything on this engine, I believe it can stand another two or three months. Besides, I'm not exactly a billionare.

I don't have a KA, but if I remember I'll track down the throttle body on my car and snap a pic of it for ya.

where is the o2 sensor on my exhaust???...right where my cat connects to the rear half there is sorta like a ground wire i think but i don't know what the heck thats for....is the o2 sensor on the headers??...i reseted the ecu and i got rid of the infamous &quot;check engine&quot; light but i still gotta get my exhaust leak fix cause i can't hear shit...no more drops in idle...but i don't know i haven't driven my car much lately cause w/ the exhaust leak my car sound like a pure DRAG car...not streetable...too #### loud and nasty sounding...for now i'm driving my Sentra till i get that problem fix...

yes the o2 sensor is on the exhaust manifold towards the bottom, you can't miss it!
