Build date isn't on the ID plate. Well, it might be embedded into the MODEL code, but it isn't written explicitly.

its almost impossible to check the date on SRs... but for sure that if its a BlackTop SR... its 95+ (or was it 94+?) anyways... there ARE places that have dates on the SR. check under the block next to the oil pan. see if theres a date on there. if not check on the side near the turbomanifold. all the dates should be on the block itsself. if not, then i dont know. these dates arent there all the time but i've seen some dates stamped on some SRs. i dont know why. If the SR still has its VIN... check it at some Japanese CARFAX heheh thats ll i have to say. good luck! holla

Came out in the 1994 model. Mine is a 1994, Type R/X (not sure what differences there are) and has a black top in it. Confirmed with some Japanese mechanics that 1994 was the first year the BT came out.

It was the same year the S14's came out and in the 180's they basically wanted the engine to look like the S14's....thus changed the cover from red to black.

The only way I know for sure to check the manufacture date of the car is on the seatbelts, near the bottom. Know that does not help you much.

sr20det.nismo.org (http://sr20det.nismo.org/nissanengines.htm) covered this.
