It is called head loss and that is the conventional method of calculating the head loss in a stead flow piping system in Bernoulli's equation, assuming all other attributes of the bend is consistent (radius, material, roughness). It is a matter of how exact you want to be. In F1, CFD analysis is done with their huge budgets to be as exact as possible in hundreds of different scenarios of different air density, temp, and different piping sizes that effect the velocity, pressure, and ultimately flow. For a bolt on intercooler setup for a drift car, none of that stuff really matters too much. It is more marketing than anything, but it does increase the flow slightly.

Well, basically everything. I'm no aerodynamicist, but a nice pronounced wall perpendicular to the air stream creates a high pressure region in front of the wall. A liquid will always flow to the path of least resistance. I'm willing to bet that they actually decreased the efficiency of that system, rather than increasing it. They would be MUCH better off just using some simple ducting to that intercooler, even with all of the bends in the piping that's creating SO MUCH pressure loss for them.

I have to give it to these guys for trying some thing different.
But.......
I have a couple of problems with their setup.
1- Air pressure on the face of the IC vs the Rear of the IC.
Everything tries to go the Path of Least Resistance, I.E. AROUND the IC and not THROUGH it.
2- The setup does cutout a WHOLE bunch of piping and bends etc....
But the point of doing so is to reduce the RESISTANCE and TURBULENCE in the system.
The Inlet and Outlet of that IC are pipes that go straight into a wall then disperse from there. Creating TURBULENCE and RESISTANCE from slamming into that wall.

If they choose to go forward with this product they need to:
1- Work on a pass through Cowl hood of some sort.
2- Work on the flow of those End Tanks

Not knocking those guys, because they were brave enough to lay down some cash, time and work into this endeavor.
But they did go in half cocked.

They need to refine this product and I'm sure all the Drift Fanboys will be all over it like a pile of JDM cool stickers.

I stand correct. No drift teams are concerned about aerodynamic drag. On a Cup car or LeManns car, drag increases the lap times. In drifting... well, its a "show", not a race. For one, its hard to utilize aero advantages on a car that is only seeing yaw winds (over 10 degrees) similar to a car that is traveling sideways. I agree with your two following statements, but neither of which are premises to back your first statement though however, and have nothing to do with drag affecting drift performance.

the funniest part about selling an intercooler setup like that, is the safety of having a fuckin front mount PROJECTILE mounted on the nose of your car. the radiator support is faaaaaaaar from strong, its just sheet metal.

And try not to look stupid.
You dont see cars on the track with the intercoolers sticking out the hood, a turbo popping up out the hood and the radiator mounted in front of a bumber.
And maybe an oil cooler sticking off the side of the passenger fender.

The most direct point from A to B is a straight line.
So just run all the wires for the battery and tail lights on the outside of the car, reducing the amount of wire needed to go the the trunk, by about 7% in distance and wieght.

My car a couple weeks ago.

BTW, the front fenders have been re-fiberglassed 3 times and the bumper has been repaired with fiberglass 3 times.
So the vinyl is doing its job.
Might not be the best, but I don't daily a ziptied mess around anymore and the cars color is uniform.

i mean what porsche owner says "im sorry, im not going to race because these streets are too rough" - thats the whole fucking purpose of having a suspension, you know... shocks, springs, bushings, etc... if you run everything solid, then the car is completely useless on the street, its like driving a fucking train.

anyway, i like beating my car on the streets.. its the only place that is real. tracks are great and i enjoyed tracking my car, but i enjoy the street more.

You will break and bend stuff sliding up there. Cars suspension isnt really built for the kind of pressure trying to slide a tire and rim sideways over rough terrain puts on it.

Its not like dirt dropping. Hitting gnarly potholes and bumps sideways is like hitting your rim with a sledge and thinking the suspension wont get messed up.

Im not stiff either, I got RSR springs on KYB. :)
