Hi,

I was just curious if any of the members here have done an engine swap and run their car on the track. There are a lot of hypothetical numbers out there... Just curious if there is any hard evidence on how much a swap improves performance. Thanks!

No one has run their car on the track after an engine swap?!? It seems like that is the dream of everyone on this board. That's the first thing I would do.... weird. Ahhh well. I still love the 240s either way.

I'm not sure if anyone here has actually done an engine swap... As you said, it's the dream, not neccessarily the reality

Ca18guy,

Don't worry bout it. I was just curious. $5000 is a lot of change to drop when your engine isn't blown. One question: I've read somewhere that the engine swap isn't carb legal. Does that mean that it isn't legit in Cali?

carb legal? i think u mean emmisions legal

CARB is very powerful in CA
everything needs to be CARB... just make sure most of your mods have CARB on them if u r in CA.... you can get away with some stuff that is not CARB legal as long as they cant tell it is a mod....

CARB is like kryptonite to many in So Cal .

So does anyone know if a swap is carb legal?

No it is not street legal, if you have track access you can go there, but its a no-no on the street. Cali. is the strictest of all the states as far as emmissions.

Thanks man. I thought so. Ah well... this sucks. Any way around it?

i don't think any aftermarket turbo setups are legal. maybe a few, but can't think of any off the top of my head.

ways around it: bring some $$$ and pay the guys off. seriously.

Ca18guy,

Go do it man! I'm sure all the members here would love to know. Hope you get some good times! As for not all tubos being legal, I believe Flyin Miata makes some that are legal in Cali. But don't hold me to that

I'm not sure if they're legal anywhere in the United States. Check with your local Emissions Testing Facility.

Depends on how much boost are you running. Most people that I've talked to have done 13s or so with different PSIs. Average, I think, is 13.

Well to answer dudes original question, about 1/4 mi times. I was at battle of the imports @ route 66 joliet. This guy I met was running 13.7? 13.8? He told me his best time was 13.5 All he had was stock sr20, stock t25, front mount, custom 3 row gm radiator, 300ZX fuel pump and thats about it. But know what, he was boostin like crazy, says he just lets it shoot, doesnt have a boost controller, most of the time his boost gauge would read above 20 psi. Yeah...holy boost. Oh yeah, one more thing, he was runnin on those nitto street drag radials too. So is that close enough for ya? I'll let you know what I run when im done with my swap.

upgrading to a t3/4 should get you into low 12s i think.

as for the legal turbo thing, if the turbo kit comes with a carb number, then its legal. i think greddy makes some for the civic and integra.

Yes the swap is a dream for most people until the point where you throw a piston rod through your block and 1/4 of a mile sideways acrost the interstate at 10500 RPM!
then it becomes a reality like for me!
I'm taking the motor to school with me next year in wyoming to build it! I'm going for 572 to the rears don't ask about the number its a gool luck number gor me!
but with the help of jun greddy and extrudhone I should be all set!

one question:
HOW (OR WHY) THE #### DID YOU HIT 10500 RPM ON A KA 240!?!?
