See this is what Im talking about. This is putting your roof rack to use. Not to fucking roll into a meet or show with your color matched hype beast fixed gear. or near immaculate bmx bike. i hate those types of people especially when they buy the luggage basket only to put junk from their grand mothers basement for this sundays stanceworks event. LOL. lame.
nice job keepin it real bro

@nathanong87 thanks! what did you have on top, and how much weight?
i really appreciate seeing people USING it for what its for also, not for some "look".
i hope your basket comment wasn't toward me. i have a hobby that i can't put all my stuff in the car so i improvised. but i see where your comming from.... fucking fanboiis...lol
i'll probably have spent less than 100$ in the bases, bars, faring, and lumber to make the basket, when it's finished.

I guarantee that wasn't directed towards you, but rather the HellaFlush Honda tools that are emulating the old veedub look with old luggage and kegs and whatnot on their hardparked show-queens.
Agreed though that this thread is for those that actually have racks on their cars to get use out of them. The whole reason I pieced together my roof rack is because I'm sick of the back of my wife's CR-V getting all scarred up from tossing my bike in and out of the back of it. Plus it'll be nice to have a place to put track spares since I don't have the room you hatchback guys have. ;)
on the wagon in the driveway? :p
rhetorical question lol, such a large picture for something that is not part of the main focus of the picture.

Usually just one bike weighing no more than 18 pounds. I have a stretch kit as well so it spreads the weight out of whatever I'm carrying. At times I've had two bike on top weighing probably 40lbs combined. I do have a snowboard rack too but they were never used while holding a bike.

My one bike weighs about 37lbs and I've had two up top. The Yakima bars bowed a bit but no dents or any structural changes on the body. I want to try the Thule bars and see how they put out.

i used to drive 90 with my bike on the rack, but as soon as i put a second bike one it would make noise, like it was uneven and it was rocking.
but that coula been my fault in not putting it on right, or my car is twisted! which is a possibility haha.

Hey guys, I just bought a random thule bike rack for my s14. My friend's boss had it in a pile of junk and only wanted $10 bucks for it. The problem is I have no idea what kind of thule rack it is or what clips I can get for it to make it work for my s14. I have read from googling that thule fit kit #230 is what I need for an s14 but they are hard to find because they are discontinued. Any advice on what clips I can get for this rack to work on my s14? Can I get the yakima 38 clips and modify them to work on the thule rack?

U need Thule clips for Thule rack. Depending on how old the rack is might determine if the clips are available. I only know the part numbers for Yakima setups.

I feel like bumping this back up as I got to put my rack on and put it to use for the first time this year... finally had some time after work to myself, so loaded up the bike and hit up Wash Park for a nice 7mi ride.

Anyways, if anyone has an s14 rack they want to get rid of, i need one to transport my bike to where im moving. So let me know

The problem is "Abuse". To many people toss a fixie up on the rack and then just LEAVE IT THERE. Its not that they are hitting the trails or bike-park after school every day. They are just using it as a "look at me" fashion accessory.

Yup, my entire setup has run me approx. $110 piecing things together from Craigslist and clearance sales. Totally worth the price to no longer have to steal my wife's CR-V any time I plan on going riding somewhere. Now I've got to scrounge up some snowboard mounts... cheapest I've found lately is about $40, but they should drop to about $25 during the summer.

1st yes i searched and i subsequently got tired of reading without finding results
I know yakima says q11's clips for a hatch and q38's for coupes
but will q38's also work for the hatch?
xkirex
02-12-2013, 11:28 PM
Q38 will not work for a hatch, the moulding around the door looks different and thus the clips are angled different.
My question to everyone on a hatch. Did you put the clips over the metal moulding or did you remove it and attach it to the roof.
http://imageshack.us/a/img29/4782/dscn0750vt.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img11/2839/dscn0749o.jpg
this is how I have it and it doesnt look right and the passenger window hits the clip
I used mine the same way, but i didnt like it. Foot clips will block window and door from closing propely plus eventually it will bend the aluminium piece. Thule reccomends small clips under trim: pdf (http://www.upload.ee/files/3069250/092.pdf.html)

02-13-2013, 01:27 AM
i think your supposed to mount the clip underneath the molding

Thought I might mention this for amusement: I've just purchased this on ebay Australia Universal CAR TOP Roof Cross BAR Crossbar Adjustable Rack | eBay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Universal-Car-Top-Roof-Cross-Bar-Crossbar-Adjustable-Rack-/170941598103?pt=AU_Cycling_New_&hash=item27cce9c997&_uhb=1)
It's difficult to get Yakima gear that isn't crazy expensive here, especially with shipping, so I thought for a measly $47 I'd see how these go. They're even silly enough to offer free shipping =\

I think for a majority of roof rack you will have to take your front wheel off. Has anyone tried using there

My Thule rack. Altough i dont like how its attached, id will do on short occasions. Foot kit was originated from my previous VW Scirocco.

and I would also suggest the lock cores to stop people from stealing your gear
6 pack of lock cores - $ 75.00
(1 for each Q tower and 1 for each board rack)
:jerkit: % locks
locks are a waste of money because they will NOT STOP a thief from taking your racks or stuff. It literally takes five seconds to lift them off with a pry bar so save your lock money for beer

I always liked the way a roof rack looks for some reason, but they won't work if you have wind visors, just a note. You could just buy a universal one and drill it in though. http://ehealthca.com/ipad/images/37.gif http://ehealthca.com/ipad/images/22.gif
