Is this weld bad?

Okay I'm help a friend get some used tires and wheels for his civic. So no flaming. Quick question. Is this weld okay? It's for a DD that's it.

as long as it doesnt leak it should be good, welds dont break the metal around them break.

Theres no way I would put those on my car. When you weld aluminum the heat affected zone around the weld causes the material to become annealed which makes it much softer and prone to deformation. Also you have no idea what series of aluminum those wheels are constructed from, which very much affects the strength of the weld. Its very possible that weld could fail in the near future.

just get a good balance on that wheel and youll be ok.

If the wheel is welded on both sides of the lip it will probably be fine. Make sure it was tigged aluminum and not some crappy mig job.. I'd drive on it.

Thats about the crapiest aluminum weld i ever saw. The only thing it has going for is if it's thick. Aluminum should look like a roll of dimes turned over it's side one on top of the other with the middle of the weld indented.

^^ it doesnt look that way because its been ground off. I wouldnt worry about, it looks like it needs to be grinded or sanded some more.

You'll be fine...the wheel isn't going to tear in half... The worst that will come is that when it starts to break/tear you'll get a leak. It wont catastrophically fail all at once.

how did that happen? did you just notice it? or did you hit something hard?

If you hit something hard, and it was weleded with tire off(probably was) i'd say its probably ok for a while. Keep checking on it.

If its a stress crack...i wouldn't trust it. Welding it will not fix the stress it has on it.
