here are the pix (http://random.sykikchimp.org/autox3903) from the autoX at knights' stadium in SC (near charlotte) from this past weekend...

sykikchimp and MANY other 240s were out there this weekend cone dogding. got some videos of 240s, spec-vs, and some Zs that showed up (one that was actually a track model!).

Nothin.. he has a KA24E that he spray painted the valve cover silver. He didn't even take off the cover to paint it. there is silver paint on his breather hose. LOL

He also had one of those fake intercooler intakes.. LOL total ricer.

I will say that he had a Place racing intake, and an S&S header.. so he was attempting, and he SAID he was getting a turbo for his KA24E.. but I had talked to this guy at LMS in August, and he said he wasn't going to turbo, because he didn't lkike turbos.

So.. I say RICE..

Charles I am looking to go to my first auto-x here pretty soon so I have some questions:

1. How different is it from road racing
2. How did the 240 respond to the tight corners and such

My impressions of autcrossing... mind you I did that first before hitting the track:

There is no rest between corners, every corner leads right into another. You more or less have to be set up for the last corner before you even leave the starting gate.

I autocrossed my GTI, which is heavier than the S13 and heavily biased towards understeer, and I did alright my first time out... My time was 2nd or 3rd from last, but I think I was the only novice there, and my car was on crappy all-season tires.

It's only slightly different from RR.. same essentials are necessary:

look UP
be smooth
memorize the track

when you get there, after sign up, everyone will be out walking the track. just walk on over to the start line, and start walking. Imagine your driving your car, and try to imagine turn in, and apex points.

the main difference is sometimes when autoxing, you will not use all the track thats available because it will slow you down. setting up for the next apex quickly is key.

also VERY important to get fast times: FEWER steering inputs = Fastest way around course.

for example.. we had a section that was a slalom.. simply three cones in a row that you had to navigate around.. you could either enter right or left. so it would proceed: right, left, right, or left, right, left.. in this particular situation, the end of the slalom was a left turn. SO.. because of the left turn, optimal entrance into the slalom was LEFT.. because we would only turn the wheel twice instead of three times. once right, then once left.. if you enter right, you have to turn left, then right, then left agian.

remember, the person that goes fastest, had his steering wheel straight the most. :)
