I have 17 by 7 rims on my stock 240sx. currently running 205/40.
Would it be possible to run 225/ 40 or 50? If it does fit, do you think they would rub at all? thanks in advance

Rubbing will depend on the offset. 235's will fit fine on a 7" rim, I usually run 225's on any 7 inch rim.

i have a 7.5 inch rim with a 225 up front. rubbing would kinda depend on your offset as well.

but yes, you can fit a 225 on a 7" rim, that is the MAX you should run on a 7" rim

I use to have 18x7.5 with 225's and they were a perfect fit. the 225's will fit, but will be just like a few here said, they will be ballooned out a little (1/2"). Given that you have a 17" rim, you will be need 45 series to get the radius close. The good thing is, the larger the sidewall, the more "room" you have to play with. Heck, I remember someone put 225/50 16's on a 6.5" rim, and yes they were ballooned out a bit (almost on the verge of looking stupid) but inconspicous enough to get away with it.

holy crap. ^ now thats big for a 7 inch rim. god to know its possible. What size sidewall do you guys suggest. Im still on stock suspension, so keep that in mind. i was thinking maybe a 45 or 50.

40 dont run no 45 or 50 thats huge
225 40 18 kuhmo on a 7.5 fn1orc is what i got and it fits perfect

ok nice. i just got a good offer on some 245/40 tires
its such a good offer im wondering if they would be ok on a 7 inch rim.
If the other dude ran 265 which is hard to believe do u think its ok to put 245 on a 7 inch rim for the back wheels? and 225 on the front?

dude i dont think its possible to run a 245 on a 7"... you would have a FAT buldge.. that is, if someone was even able to mount it on the rim
EDIT: I just read the post above, I guess it is possible.. i would expect it to be really sloppy though

i'm running 225/40s in the rear on a 7" and it has a slight bulge.. 215 is the proper size for it though

same sizes on different brands will usually not have the exact same fitment

uhm...maybe hes not trying to stretch a rubberband tire on his wheel like most drifting clowns.

225 is a standard size tire for a 6.5-7.5" wheels. my SC300 came stock on 16x6.5 with 225/55/16 from the factory.

if you have a 17x7 i would run something like a 225/45/17 and call it a day. i assume this is for a DD or a winter setup right.

why would people want low profile tires for the winter anyways. unless you are in cali you will kill even your stock wheels in the winter...especially with chicago potholes :)

wow, stock 225 on a 6.5". are you sure about that?

I thought the recommended for a 7" is 215.

I don't stretch. I run 215 on my 8" wheels, and 245 on my 9s. Nice and square.

i ran 255s on 17x7.5 on my q45 at one point, lol.

it's better to run 235/40 than 225/45, 225/45 is too tall

I run 245/45/17

A tiny bit taller than stock, but 245/40 was too short. The 45 fills out the wheel well a bit better too.

I run 255 on 17x8.

and have run them on 17x7, a couple mm of buldge but still very square from the rear - even with large track tires like Azenis

wow, serious? 255 on a 17x7?

i've got 17x7 all around and i've contemplated running larger sizes that a 225 but i wouldnt think a 255 would even fit on there...

That would add a lot of slop in the steering if it was run up front, right?

Maybe a 225 front, 255 rear setup? ..although on 7" wide, that's still hard for me to believe..

Why the hell would you run that setup on 7" wheels? if you're worried about anything at all, GET DIFFERENT WHEELS... 7" wheels are for Civics.

I got an offer on 2 245/40ZR17 Hankook Ventus R-S2 still wrapped up for only 200 bucks. and then 2 225/40ZR17 Dunlop SP Sport maxx for 65 bucks.
So all together about 270 for all new tires. and im on a pretty tight budget here. what do you guys think?

They were drag radials...

I run 255 on 17x8 All day, and so do a lot of Evo's and other grip racers. Responsive enough for me, I also purposely over-staggered my front wheels with 25 MM spacers to induce more over steer instead of under-steer. It worked and the wheel and tire combo is just dandy, but I need more grip so I'm going up to NTO1.

I personally like 235 40 17 FR and 255 40 17 R on S13. If you do some investigating into wheel/tire combos for time attack cars in Japan, they don't go much bigger than these staggers, sometimes 18s but not bigger than 265, the do play with tire compound though. It all depends on your driving style too

I would not run wider than 235 40 17 on a 17x7 however, but I believe that is would work out just fine for a grip setup.

money, personal preferance.

Me for example. Building my girlfriends coupe, she found some wheels, fell in love with them (doesnt want to get rid of them) had them refinished/painted but there only 7" wide. only downside but they look amazing. Also....People use stockers to put drag radials/slicks on when/if they go to the track.

Right. I can see little wheels for drag.... I'm talking daily driving, autocross, etc.

you gain alot more in grip than you lose in feel, imo.

Width in tire manufactures vary a bit too. I have some Toyo proxies (225/40 x 18's) and when I went to the Hankook RS2's they were noticably wider, even though the size was exactly the same.

BTW,, those Hankooks gripped so damn well, that doing a burnout was almost hard (didn't do it very often, tires are too damn expensive to turn into smoke). Just let off the gas for a split second and they would hook up like crazy. Only thing I didn't like was the only lasted 10k miles.

That's interesting... so a wider stance up front reduces understeer?
So you're saying the time attack guys don't even want to run ridiculously large sizes like 275s in the front and 330s in the rear (like that one auto x-setup red hatchback 240 i'm sure you're familiar with)?

I ask because I have a 17x7 setup all around and i'm currently running 205 F and 225 R with somewhat grippy street tires, but i'm considering trying out the Federal RS-Rs once these are all worn...

So I was thinking to go 215 all around, but now i'm wondering if maybe I should do something like 225 F and 235 R?

This is, however, mostly a street, dd car.

*sorry, don't mean to threadjack...

I have a stock 240sx, just got a bunch of SPL suspension parts (everything but coilovers - will get to that eventually) and I have 17x8 wheels (all 4 corners) - 5zigen FN01R-C (4 lug)

Currently I have Pirelli Pzero Nero 215/45 on my wheels, but they are old and need to be replaced.

Was thinking about getting Bridgestone Potenza RE-11 245/40

Will this be square?? Anyone have advice or perspective??

Thanks!
