I'm pretty new to the Nissan scene. In fact I just bought my 95 240Sx SE last week and have been enamored ever since. The car has quite a bit more TQ than my previous car (94 Ls Teg), but as always, it's never enough and I'd like to boost the engine once I get the suspension all sorted out.

Here's my question: why the fuss over the SR20DET? Sure it's a stock engine engineered for a turbo and should work well out of the box.

But if anyone is going to seriously run a turbo bottom end work should be a foregone conclusion, so why is an SR20 preferred for boost than a built KA24? Seems to me that with a lower compression piston, better rods and an adequate fuel system, a KA series engine with it's bigger displacement should be able to run lower boost (less det probs) just as reliably and make as much or more power than an SR engine. Besides, with the larger output it's low end when it's off the boost shoul dbe much better as well as being able to push a bigger turbo no?

Now if I am way off base please tell me. I am all about learning and making informed decisions esp when it comes to my car (my last car was my pride and joy). Many thanks and look forward to talking to ya'll at some point in the future.

the ka will give more hp at lower boost (displacement always wins out), but it seems that the ppl running turbo ka's have reliability problems. there are a ton of turbo sr's so you'll have more ppl to get info from, and more ppl that can diagnose your problems
