So I decided I want to learn to make Sushi. Was at Borders and picked up one of those How to books. Lots of great info so I set out on my quest to my local fish market and Asian Market. Had to pick up a lot of JDM stuff to be legit :rice

These are my supplies. I got my Nori, Kombu, Masago, Gari, Wasabi, Sushi Vinegar, Japanese Mayonaise, Chilli Sauce, Sesame Seeds, Fillet of Sushi Tuna and Salmon. I plan on making some Spicy Tuna Rolls, Tuna Rolls, Salmon Rolls, California Rolls, Tuna Nigiri.

Well we always bought from this Local Fish Market before. They're one of the best and funny you should say Sushi Grade they label that Tuna "Sushi Tuna" :keke:

This is my first attempt so I doubt a write up will be any time. If you go on youtube theirs quite a bit of videos. I'll post up pics of my rolls though.

SRIRACHA FTW( the chili sauce) . Damn I wish sushi place by my house is still open. Btw i never heard of people using SRIRACHA on sushi before.

If you want to make a spicy mayo sauce, just mix mayo with
sriracha sauce, and a little wasabi.

Be sure that fish is fresh. I always get my salmon and tuna from
Costco.

i used to be a sushi chef, wrap your bamboo in plastic wrap, will save you a lot of annoying rice buildup. First and foremost have fun and enjoy what you eat, who gives a shit if it looks like crap. Get a nice knife too, i had a $800 knife but thats obviously not necessary, just something straight edged and sharp as shit. For some bomb spicy tuna sauce use sriracha, jap mayo, chili powder aka shichimi, and some red pepper flakes.

for everything you see including the fish I think I spent about $60.00 It was like $35 for the Sushi supplies and about $30 for the Fish, and Crab. Yes I got crab too.

Im probably gonna go to the market to pick up scallions/green onion and some other veggies.

We have a place called Empire Fish (http://207.56.189.2/a/Retail.aspx) that is off the chain for fresh fish here in Milwaukee. They actually have a whole sushi section. This places supplies all our local restaurants. So it's the same stuff I'd get AT the sushi joint.

Im having issues with my knife its not sharp enough so its dragging the rolls. Thats why the rolls arent as tight.

You should venture into more intricate sushi:
baby lobster roll, spider roll, mango roll, scallop roll, etc.

***Ok so the "sushi grade" fish mentioned above...

Is it safe... to eat straight raw tuna from the waters of Baja Mexico area.

My friends drive south of the boarder, and hire a boat to take them out for the day and come home w/ mass amounts of tuna or whatever... and they slice that up and eat it raw...

Safe or not Safe?!

You need a knife that is sharp enough to cut the roll
in one motion, and not using a sawing motion. Same goes
for cutting the fish.

Yup the Wolfgang Puck knives I got suck. Im already looking at some Global Sushi Knives. A set of 3 for about $160.00.

These rolls are thick rolls so they use quite a bit of rice.

My wife made sushi a few times I couldnt find a bamboo roll around here, so she put the seaweed on the outside. As opposed to between the rice and fish.

I ono man, everytime I make sushi. After all the materials, clean up time and work just to eat. I sometimes think its a better idea to pay the $25-30 buck and get full right away. Still fun to do every now and then.

looks good man.. but less rice and more filling..the knife needs to be sharper too so it doesnt look all out of place..
