did some clutch work today and now i cant get the bellhousing back on my car at all. i loosened the nuts on the bottom of the motor mounts, but i still cant get the rear of the motor down enough of any angle and it looks like firewall clearance wont allow me to go anymore. i have got to get this trans back on to get this thing out of the garage asap.
any help or pointers would be GREATLY appreciated
thanks in advance folks

Make sure you unbolt the exhaust, that will keep the motor from tilting back. Just jack it up from the front of the oil pan and that should do it.

make sure your clutch is aligned?

exhaust is off. tried the pan thing, still didnt seem like enough angle.

clutch is aligned? i mean i used the alignment tool, it looks legit, but im not sure how that could even be relevant

i agree with that...same thing happen to me so what i did is i rested a piece of plywood on the front of my oil pan and then jacked it up enough so i can get the tranny back in...also make sure you aligned the clutch in, but im pretty sure you did that when installing it so that can't be whats causing it not to go in....

good luck

how high do you have the car jacked up...is it enough to get a good angle for you to get it in? and how much did jack up the motor from the pan?

It is a pain in the ass sometimes. A trans jack, a lift, and a big pry bar would help a LOT. The only option that you have is try to loosen the crossmember and drop the engine down a bit, just be sure to re-align the bolts as close to exactly as possible.

Did you take off the clutch alignment tool before or after you tighten down the pressure plate? When putting the transmission on put it in 1st gear and spin the rear part so it can wiggle itself in.

alignment tool was removed after the pressure plate bolts were properly torqued.

Get an engine lift and lift the front of the motor to get it to tilt?

the trans usually slides in a little easier if you lift up the rear of the tranny, while pushing in..and going in and up and down motion. :naughty:

i had a tough time getting my trans on when the engine was OUT of the car. Just be persistent and wiggle the bitch till she goes on

It was tough my first time doing it like that... but after popping my "stabbing the motor to the tranny" cherry, its easy as pie.

Just line it up and shove your shaft into the pilot bushing.

Just make sure everything is lined up or you'll be pulling it back out to try again.
