well i just got in a car accident with my 97' 240sx today, i rear ended a 4runner going less than 20mph. while his car suffered *no* damage, my whole hood popped off and was bent with coolant leaking inside. i'm just wondering if all japanese cars are like this, cuz i know my sister's eclipse and prelude both suffered along in minor accidents. also, how much do you think it'll cost to fix my car?

i hit a not so big 10 yr old f10 ford with my taurus ford...
he had like 3 tiny dents..
i had a hole the size of a watermelon

It all depends on how the car is made. New cars do shit like crumple zones to absorb the impact, really doesn't matter who makes it. Much safer in high-speed collisions, but for something at a lower speed, it causes more harm than good. . . ####, one of my teachers a while back hit a minivan in his ~60s VW Bug. He had a dent, the minivan dropped it's engine

I know that the s14 is more expensive to insure b/c of the extent of damage it will sustain in a frontal impact. Also, SUV bumpers are #### on any passanger car.

i hit a van at 5 mph, it's bumper caved in, my paint got cracked on the bumper.

new cars are safer, but they aren't designed with keeping post accident repair costs in mind.

You would have gone under him too, your are low he sits high. I know that in my neon I punted a guy who cut me off, he drove away from the accident (yes the lovely hit and run) and the front of my car was smashed to shit. It really depends. if you get under him it can really f*ck you up while his is ok. I know that that is what happened to me. I got under him and his ass end tore my car all to peices... nothing to do with japanese cars though.

All the 240 are f***ing horible for frontal impacts, all inpacts in fact. I slid on some ice in a parking lot going 5 mph or less, knocked the front right corner. Over $3000 Canadian damage. Hood, quarter panel, bumper, popup headlight, front alignment, all screwed up the river. Now that took a bit into my insurance costs, damb!

i used to drive a celica... and i had rear ended a jeep with a towing hitch... nothing to his car and my front bumper was all dented in. funny story tho... it had literally ripped my license plate in half! so after getting new plates, my dad and i took the bumper off and banged it out from the inside... not a perfect fix but good enough with some walmart (perfectly matched) paint... but yeah, ive heard 240s are #### in any impact situation. sorry to hear that man.

They tend to take a lot of damage in light hits, but thats a good thing in a bad accident. i actually barely felt anything when I got in an accident w/ my 240 because it absorbed it all. Id say its a good design as far as safety goes, not financialy though. mine was considered totaled even though it didnt look that bad becaudse the frame took part of the impact. you can see the pic of my car in my avatar
