My alternator is pretty much toast.. Wont start without a jump, and my altima fans drop rpms (and at the same time my oil pressure gauge goes crazy).

My question is... is there any USDM alternator I can use, or am I gonna have to hunt down a SR one?

I suppose I could always have it rebuilt... searched but couldnt find anything on any usdm alternators. Is the KA one the same?

From what i've heard and seen (buddies car) he used a KA alternator, however the electric fitting/connector will have to be modified a little.

yes a KA alternator will fit with minor mod. same plugs, same bolts. the only thing you need to do is drill a couple threads from the mounting points so that the bolts will go through.

EDIT: looky what i found when being nice and searching for you. http://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=73688&highlight=s14+alternator

Just swap pulleys and use the KA tensioner bolt.

KA alt with SR pulley. Drill out one of the holes to fit the bolt.

S13 KA alt is 80A, S14 KA with foglamps is 90A

Which hole am I drilling out? The mounting bolt or the tensioning bolt?

i would buy a new one from ebay before I pay to rebuild it again.

I can get a quality rebuilt one for ~100 bucks for a KA. I just want to know which hole I have to redrill beforehand.

since Quest fits in KA
and KA fits in SR

Would that mean Quest 110A alt will fit SR?

I used the SR lower pivot bolt and the KA upper bolt though the SR tensioner.

If you had to jump it and then it ran fine. It sounds like the Battery.

Best upgrade would be to use a 1999-2002 Quest alternator (125 Amps). You need to get a couple rod ends (left and right hand drive along with left and right hand nuts, and also a turn buckle for those rod ends). You just have to drill out the Quest alternator holes with a 7/16 drill bit. There is a guy on this forum that sells the entire kit with belt, excluding alternator for $75. You can get a used 99 Quest alternator for $30 on car-part.com
I sourced my own components and belt and I'm running dual high powered Audi fans with absolutely no issues when the fans come on, even at night with lights on.
