3.54 ring and pinion from 84-86 300ZX (Turbo) R200

Has any tried to swap this over to a 95+ R200 diff? I am wondering if there is anything different between the older R200's and the newer ones.

I need a 3.54 final drive which I could easily get from a Q45, but I would have to drill out the ring gear to 13mm from 12mm. The 84-86 R200's used 12mm ring gears from what I have researched.

Oh and the 300ZX is a longnose house; mine is a shortnose housing (non-ABS).

So I am wondering if it could simply be swapped over.

From what I've read - The pinion is too long...so it won't work (won't fit your housing).

...and since the R&P are a matched set, if one part won;t work....you can't use the other.

Makes sense since the nose is indeed longer on the Z31's... AAGGGHH!!

I know the Q45 R&P will work. It is just that I am lazy and don't want to deal with drilling. I will have to swap the pinion bearing and make sure the height is correct with the washer/shims.

Anyone else have insights?

I was just gonna mention the G50 Q45 3.53 ring and pinion but you already know that.

Is it not possible to swap the companion flanges? to avoid drilling?
