I was recently told that a t3 w/ .43 AR or so was too small for a KA-t and that it wouldnt generate any boost. I dont understand how this would be the case. I can understand it not making more than 12 or so PSI but making none makes no sense. I plan on using this turbo for my setup cause i got it cheap ($30) and then upgrading later (t3 flange will fit a t3/t4). Id like to know if this turbo will work in my setup (running 4-5psi) for the time being untill i can get the rest of the things I need to get up to my Ideal 12 psi. As always your input is appreciated.

It's not too small. Actually a/r ratio doesn't really play alot of role on how your car will respond to boost. What a/r does is determine if you are gonna have more turque up front (smaller a/r) or more power at the top end(bigger a/r). What plays a big role in boost settings is the trim of a turbo. Umm...
AR has something to do with air flow. &nbsp;It's like trying to blow air out 2 different straws. &nbsp;One is the twizzle to stir coffee and the other is the huge ass Checkers straws. &nbsp;
The air will fill and push out the twizzle much faster than the huge Checkers straw, but the Maximum ammount of air pushed will be much less than the checkers straw.
Kinda wierd. &nbsp;I think that I talked to you on AIM on some turbo project.
Anyway... a t3 with a pretty small ar powered the 3L z31. &nbsp;It would work well for a KA-T project at 4-5psi, but like you said... you wont have the maximum boost that a larger housing would give you, but you will have a quicker spool up time. &nbsp;Then you go thru with the plan of swapping housings later, and you're set.

Well i was more talking about maximum turbo flow. Like a smaller a/r would make the turbo spool faster to produce equivalent boost. But the trim would tell you what is the max min responses of the turbo. Like look at the tubonetics compressor maps.

Look at t3 "60"
at 1.3 pr (4psi) it will flow an efficient max of 17lbs/min = 246CFM = 6850 RPM <= waaay after you will ever shift

now look at t3 "40"
at 1.3pr it will only flow an efficient max of 10lbs/min = 145CFM = 4040 RPM <= after that it will be blowing too hot of air and would be practically worthless....

that's what i was talking more about... that should be correct... or i'm not getting the turbo talk at all <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

my turbo has on it AR .43. I just want to make sure that it will be ok for the time being. Kreator you said you could figure it out so if thats cool im waiting for your thumbs up or thumbs down. And Jeff I have a tendency to trust what you say cause you have the KAt setup too. Im hoping to have my turbo on by january and slowly upgrade everything such as going to a t3/t4 eventually when i want my ideal boost. Thanks guys

SOrry bro, &nbsp;i've gone through 3 turbochargers on my KA-T setup &nbsp;for even my low 6-8psi boost. &nbsp; &nbsp;First one was a T3 garret 60ar comp with .63 ar exhaust Garrett----almost no response, &nbsp;couldnt really feel it do anything. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; then next was Garret T3/T4E 50 Trim compressor .63 ar Exhaust-- WAY BETTER , &nbsp;it kicks and pulls!! &nbsp; next i went to T3/To4B garrett 60 trim comp with 50 wheel &nbsp; .63 stage III . &nbsp; THis turbo is basically &nbsp;the best setup there is for KA motor. &nbsp; IF you plan to go to 12 psi and bother wasting so much money on turbocharging your car i suggest you not do what i did and many more. &nbsp; &nbsp; Save your money and get a real turbocharger. &nbsp; &nbsp; i got my T3 from a junkyard- yeh it worked, &nbsp;but i wasnt happy with how slow it was, and neither are others that put T3's on KA, &nbsp; &nbsp;and yurs is a .42 dang thats even worse. &nbsp; sell it and get t3/t4. &nbsp; Save up if you have to, &nbsp;cuz it will save you THE BIGGESt HASSSLE EVERY. &nbsp; 5psi, &nbsp; T3/To4B &nbsp;will respond insanely quick if you do the right match and will flow crazy. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;save up if you can, &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; if you need help i can get you a new Garrett T3/To4B for $550 &nbsp;or same for 600 with internal wastegate too. &nbsp; i dunno, &nbsp; if not, &nbsp;just try to find a used one. &nbsp; &nbsp;later, &nbsp;good luck

Nissmo. &nbsp;Can you tell me how a "little" t3 can run a z31 up to 12psi, but a KA can't? &nbsp;That was a 3.0L motor, with only 1.5L of exhaust to push it. &nbsp;It would be better to have a larger turbo... but why? &nbsp;Grab the compressor map from turbonetics and work on it for a while before you say that things are too small.

z31 was a single turbo ? &nbsp;driven by 3 or 6 exhaust pipes?
