Has anyone here ever broken a subframe? I went to get an alignment today and discovered a crack on my subframe. Im thinking to weld it up and weld some plates on for added bracing. Both sides to be safe. Either way this seems really wierd. I basically have all solid bushings out back but I didn't expect the actuall subframe to crack, nor have I seen this before.

Anyone encounter this? What did you do?

If its just the subframe.

You can just drop the subframe and replace it with another one.

Easy.

I could, but then it could just happen again. I think it would be smarter to repair this one and brace it. Im sure that might be cheeper too.

So in other words you've just answered your own question then.

Good to go.

no repairing it would actually be more prone to having it crack again, since its always going to have that crack and will probably have more stressed areas since it was cracked, i'd combine both solutions and get a new subframe and weld bracing into that one.

Look guy, Im trying to find out what other people did to strengthen the subframe. If you can offer some valuable experience or tips that would be great.

My subframe was cracked all the way, right where it bolts up to the diff.

if i had any cracks on mine id just replace it
its no more then a few hours of work.
weld up the new one too and box some stuff in while ur at it.

s14 subframes are more common to cracking then s13 it seems. at least in drifting its more common.

Welding a subframe is something a honda owner might do. Replace the subframe. Welcome to real cars. =)

Good look. His wasn't damaged was it? Just preventitive?

Thanks for the insight everybody.

I was under the impression that the repaired point would be stronger.

dont weld a bunch of crazy shit or braces or something on to the crossmember....

thats dumb

its designed in a certain way to collapse and or absorb impacts if you were to wreck (yea no 240 owners do that...)

if you make it stronger in a certain spot you fuck all that up

why do people think a steel crossmember isnt strong enough in the first place anyway lol

if u wreck that hard its no biggie
