Click above for a high-res gallery of the Nissan GT-R V-Spec.
The prototype Nissan GT-R V-Spec (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/07/spy-shots-nissan-gt-r-spec-v/), wearing the "Victory Specification" designation reserved for the ultra high-performance Nissan GT-R (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/04/04/first-drive-2009-nissan-gt-r/), has been caught lapping the famed Nürburgring at an incredible, if not simply unbelievable, 7:25 per lap. This, according to bystanders trackside. (For comparison, Walter Röhrl lapped the Ring in 7:28 while driving a Porsche Carrera GT in 2004.)
In contrast to the standard Nissan GT-R, that made the run around the 'Ring in 7:38 (http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/25/video-nissan-gt-r-laps-the-nurburgring-in-7-38/), the GT-R V-Spec has a new front splitter, modified rear spoiler, and different wheels. A more extensive use of carbon fiber has reportedly reduced the weight by upwards of 330 pounds. Of course, Nissan engineers also tweaked the twin-turbo powerplant for another 70 horses... or so. Thanks for the tip, XeroK00L!

how did toyota up nissan before?

the last toyota sports car was a supra...and that was more competition for the Z32 than the gtr

No the latest toyota to lap the ring was a prototype of the LF-A that beat the gt-r (I forget by how much, IIRC it was by a second?)

Well they have not really done that for awhile. It reminds of how long it took Toyota to build a race winning GTP car while Nissan just dominated. Seems like Toyota is always playing catch up when it comes to Super Sports cars or Sports cars in General.

Now before anyone brings stuff up I will head it off at the pass. The 2000GT was Originally a Nissan Yamaha collaboration to start with, and the forbearer to the FairladyZ. (doubt me on this study Z car history)

The Only real Sports car Toyota can claim to having that was not catch up was the MR2.

Otherwise regardless of What Anyone says the Supra was afterthought to both the Celica and Nissans Skyline GTR.

Toyota builds nice cars and more on the luxury side cars are that. Very good ones I might add. Yes they are in racing with the help of Yamaha. No they are not to be sneezed at.
Nissan is what Nissan is. Nissan's Heritage lies in Sports cars and racing. I honestly don't think Toyota will build something to match the V spec R35 GTR.

Well, Lexus then if not Toyota with the LF-A. It will cost more but we'll see how it does against the GT-R then...

Ya but the problem with the LF-A Norm, is its theory and speculation at best at this point. Its like the ISF. Sure they showed it at the LA car show in all its Carbon Fiber glory. Though thats the point . Toyota is not about to actually try and sell a All Carbon Fiber shell car, beyond maybe as a Spec racer in limited numbers like Nissan is doing with the Fairlady 380RS(at 285k I might add). They would have to charge over 200k for it. LOL

I just remember an article on autoblog or somewhere where they had an LF-A test mule rin the ring quicker than the GT-R. But yeah it was a test mule so the numbers could be quite off.
