Looks like my buddy is going to drop a VG into his s14. Got the motor and tranny, still need the driveshaft. He's going stock turbo's so the rearend is going to stay s14 until he turns it up. He's pondering a top mount IC (similar to the vmount) because there's going to be a ton of room up front.

My question is: how many of you have attempted this swap and what problems have you came across? Where the problem may arise is the width of the motor. Any suggestion?

Advice : Dont do it, its lame.

and iirc stock manifolds/turbos cant be used because they hit frame rails and/or steering shaft.

We're 90% sure we could use the stock manifolds and turbos. we took a few measurments and it looks like they clear but barely

And I'm not sure why you're saying it's lame. Please explain? It's a comparable to, power wise, to the 2j with a Nissan name to it.

It's been looked at before. Doesnt clear the frame, well at least with the TT setup. You're gonna have to do a single turbo conv.

The last guy who did this was on freshalloy forums...I think his name was 300SX, look him up and ask him questions, he did a clean ass S13 and S14 VG30DET single turbo conv swap.

"Thanks guys! Let me see if I can answer all of your questions. First off, I built alot of custom stuff myself to do this swap, mounts (solid), manifolds, ect. The stock twins would have been real hard to keep in there because the driver side turbo interferes with the steering shaft/rack. I don't know how possible this swap would be without moving the brake booster/master cylinder like I did. It still has a MAF that is set up "blow through" style and it sits off the intercooler on the driver side. I used the TT tranny and had a custom driveshaft made by Driveshaft Specialist Inc. in Texas (highly recommended btw!!), it uses GM style replaceable U joints and I was told it should hold 600+hp, all that for $350 shipped! Ok enough of the plug, lol. I think I got most of the ?'s covered, let me know if you guys have any more. "

Hope that helps...GL and keep us posted.

cool. I'll get a hold of him. I'm still going to try to mock it up and see if there's ANY way it could fit but if not a single turbo conversion is not bad either.

There is a guy on nico that was making a kit to do the swap. Search there.

My 2 cents
Go VH, same power, smaller dimensions(the v isn't so wide), lots of info on the swap too. If you are interested check out vh45de.com

Personally the VG just isnt terribly appealing.
Old technology, physically old (wear and tear), heavy, hard to fit into s-chassis using stock twins.

Heres a few pics of greasers old S14 that he was going to VG but never finished iirc... I believe it was greaser...

blah.

Rather go with a VQ or built KA or SR or 1J or LS1 or a host of other motors...
But I guess whatever floats your boat..

Possibly in stock form, but when you start modifying them I dont really see the VG holding that much of a candle to the 2J.
A 2J you can get budget single kits to throw down 500-600whp without much of an issue... and thats not really stressing out a 2J where as the VG is a bit more on the edge at those power levels

i dont like the vg swap because vg's are a pain in the ass to work on. i mean who wants to drop a motor all the time to do in major work on one.and a 1 or 2jz would kill a vq any whay shape or forum. if you want to do a swap just do a 2jz or a ls1.

bad comparrison...the 2jz is the most powerful motor in import history... the VG can make good power tho...just dont compair it to that motor.
If you still think they are compairable check out this months "Modified" mag specifically the article about the DFW vs Houston Supra dyno meet

or it is damn easy to toss a Rb series in there too. but i would say VQ or LS if i had the choice to get a new engine. RB and JZ single and dual turbos veary comparable. just one goes into nissans much easier than the other.

Don't do a 2JZ just to keep up a race wars

You sir speak in ignorance. Not only is a VQ much lighter than a 1or 2jz but the engines have been tuned out to 1800 HP already here in the states. Take your 2jz and try that. There are reliable 300 whp stock NA VQ's all over the place in G's and 350's. There are 500-600 TT setups as well.
