Sometime, probably mid-next week we are launching an IRC channel, to kick the already kickass 240 community into some real-time chat.

I will post specific details soon.

PS - if anyone can offer services of any sort to the channel (bot, botnet, etc) Please e-mail me @ [email protected] -- Also if anyone has any suggestions/ideas for the channel post em here or e-mail me and I'll consider them.

Thanks!

It has been tried before, it didn't work. Most people don't have irc and don't want install new software. You are welcome to try, but it'll most likely fail. We have a chat on AIM that you are welcome to join. Talk to DSC about it.

I dont see any reason why it wouldn't work. If somebody tried it before, they probably didn't know crap all about irc and its services. Im a IRC Veteran persay, I know it inside and out, hopefully we'll be able to expand the community.

And i'll pm dsc about this aim chat, i've never tried aim chat before, thanks

AIM is allready established as the Zilvia Chat preference. With around 200 names on DSC's list I doubt that will change.

I'm not trying to 'change' DSC's AIM chat.

Keep in mind this is not a Zilvia chat room, this is an open chatroom to anyone in the 240 community, there are hundreds who refuse to even touch a bulletin board, maybe some of them have some good input to offer the community? Hey, its worth a shot. There isnt too much work involved and it doesnt cost any money. So it doesn't hurt to try

You dont even have to talk to DSC about it. All you have to do if you have AIM is invite yourself to roomname Zilvia

I'm in there, pretty much all the time, and members drop by every now and then. On occassion, it gets pretty full...

Guys, the IRC Channel is now open. Althought very un-busy at the moment, come visit and just idle with us until we get more regulars!

Like I said before if anyone can offer any services let me know.

Here is the channel information:
SERVER: irc.gamesnet.net
CHANNEL: #240SX

For those of you interested but unexperienced with IRC, i'll write a quick step-by-step to get you online and into our channel.

Step1: Download Latest version of mIRC
Easiest thing to do probably is just open it from the location. If you dont like doin that just save it somewhere on your disk, its only an installation EXE.

Step2: Installation
Follow the simple on-screen instruction, accept the liscense agreement, select the folder you want to install mIRC to (or just use the default, doesnt matter). When the installation is complete, Launch mIRC (at either the end of the installation or through your start menu)

Step3: mIRC Setup
The first thing you will be presented with when you launch mIRC is an annoying popup that is normally through the Help->About. This will popup everytime you start mIRC unless you uncheck the unlabled checkbox in the bottom left hand side of the window. After that you dont have to see it again.

The next thing you will see is the mIRC Options Diaglog. Here you will setup your nickname, alternate nickname and the server options to connect to the gamesnet server where the channel is located. (this might sound a little bit complicated to some but its really not that difficult, just try to read my instructions carefully and I'll be as detailed as possible).

First, fill in your desired Full Name (can be anything you want), E-mail (also doesnt matter), nickname and alternative nickname (The alternative will be used if someone is already using your primary choice).

Once you have those filled out, look towards the top of that dialog box where it says "IRC Network". The default is "All". Change this to "Gamesnet". The dropdown below that will let you choose a USWest or USEast server, either will work, you can choose if you wish.

After thats done, click the button "Connect to IRC Server"
Its should connect in a few second and then popup yet another dialog box asking you to join a channel. There is a checkbox at the bottom of this window, UNCHECK it and click the "OK" button.

You should now be in a "status" window which, if you scroll up, will give you a message of the day and other various things from the Gamesnet network, this stuff doesnt matter. There is a text box which you can type in, in the bottom of this window. Type the following command:

/join #240SX

"/join" is the command used to tell mIRC that you want to join a channel. Any combination of characters with a "#" sign infront of them indicated to mIRC that you want to join a channel.

Anyway, you should now be in the #Nissan IRC Channel along with anyone else who has joined. I should be there 24/7 (at least idle, I wont always be at my computer. I do have somewhat of a life. hehe)

I hope these instuctions help get you connected, if you have any questions, suggestions, comments, complaints, PM Me and i'll be happy to help/cry/whatever in response.
