Someone please help. I just started having grinding problems on my SR Tranny. It's in 2nd gear. I asked for help and some said it could be the
synchros. I have no idea what they are and where they're located. Can someone please give me some direction. Thank you. If you could post it here and PM me that would be great. Thank You very much.

The Synchros are in between the gears, it's ONLY in second gear?
When you shift in? This might help, It's from a KA tranny, but Nissan trannys are about the same.

what tranny fluid are you running? grinding is common in nissan trannys. maybe try different fluid. i was having grinding problems with my 3rd gear and switched to redline gear oil and bam, no more grinding. but yes, koukegi is right on.

I'm with the guy asking what gear oil you have in your tranny. Nissan 90's nissan trannys specifically require GL4. I run redline mt90.

Using google is very difficult....

I tried to use mobil one synthetic fluid in my car and it started grinding gears. It started with fourth gear only and as I drove it the other gears started grinding. I took it home put some regular gear oil in and it all stopped. I am currently running NEO synthetic 75w90 RHD fluid right now with no grinding. Change your fluid and see if it gets better, if it doesn't then a rebuild is in order.

with all due respect, if you don't know what synchros are, I wouldn't suggest trying to rebuild a transmission on your own....

Like they said, try some different fluid first....

if its bugging you that much, you may just want to get another trans. unless you've had some experience with transmissions, i wouldnt suggest doing something as involved as a rebuild.

any ka trans will work with the swap of the bell housing. They arent the same exact transmission internally, but it'll work without any problems.

Can you be more accurate in your discription? like from 1-2 or 3-2.........

Change your fluild. Use either MT90 or Penzoil Syncromesh. Yes, the FSM says to use 75w90 or something, but that is a oil. You should run a "transmission" fluid. I switched from 75w90 to synchromesh in my car and its like a different tranny.
