Alrite i hope this is the best place for it even though you can consider it regional/technical

Since theres starting to be a lot more s-chassis doing grip events in socal this thread is here to discuss experiences insights and technical info about grip events we will be doing.

If you guys can pm me info on your car setup and pictures ill post them on this first thread spot so we can get a good idea of who is who running what.

maybe as the this thread progresses we can actually start setting up a chart to track our progress.

I think it would be pretty good to list setups that we were running at specific events as to be able to pick a part settings and results from that event.

Alright. Shall we all start by posting our previous results from previous track events as a form of standard?
Or, has there already been a thread for something like that?

One of the first cars you may consider putting up there is Jason Rhode's - STS 240sx AutoX National Champ 2006. I believe he shared his setup & there was a link to the article in Grassroot Motosports magazine, but I can no longer find it.

AutoX setup, but a lot of it carries over into road racing setup.

I'd share my setup, but that would mean sharing info w/ the enemy!!!

Really though, my car changes almost every event, still waiting for it to settle down, haha.

Last Sunday was my first track day/event ever with the car besides a gymkhana day and one auto-x, so I am just finding some weak points and getting a hang of maneuvering that much power around a technical course.

Thats about all I can think of.

aside from the things In red I will aslo be purchasing a Helical Diff of some sort and a autopower race 4 point and a better harness hopefully before Feb STUSA event

The car also has a Q45 TB and Lightened Flywheel which greatly helped throttle response with the big gt3076R turbo.

Sam - Glad to see you upgraded your tires!! New seat and tires... I'm going to try and keep up with you and record those fireballs you shoot out, LOL.

Chris - Dude!! I don't know if it was the heat or what.. but, seriously your exhaust got me! I was whipping my head everywhere looking for that damn Subaru in my blindspot, hahahaa.

Steveshadows - I've heard good things about you and your car from Nit and Daryl. I'm sure you had a good ride in both of there cars, they're both excellent drivers! Hope to meet you soon at the next track event.

Nit - Clean S13 as always, loud as hell, but clean.. hahaha.. Make sure to give me a ride next time and show me how much you've improved. I'll call you up to square things away with the diff when I get back from Japan.

Hope to meet more of you at the track!

from my experience, you guys say that streets of willow is easier then buttonwillow?

and how much different is big willow then buttonwillow.

UNITEDMASTER
12-20-2007, 08:28 AM
Hello IMOP Big willow is a high speed affair so you need good high speed balance the course is all 4th-5th gear you go down to third like 2 times only. Turn 8 & 9 have a big pucker factor that will make or break your lap time. If you have high levles of understeer it will eat your tires for lunch.

BUTTN is a much more technical track there is alot to be said for button, have a look at the track maps you have low 2nd gear all the way to constant radius 4th gear bend to a blind change of direction hill, that leads to a hairpin(formula mazda. You also have esses. So button has a bit of everything. PM me if you want a course break down I have course notes for all so-cal tracks(incl-Laguna & infinieon also thunder hill) PEACE!!!!

from my experience, you guys say that streets of willow is easier then buttonwillow?

and how much different is big willow then buttonwillow.

There is no comparison between Streets & Buttonwillow. Streets is a technical auto-cross style track. Where BIG Willow (WSIR) and Buttonwillow are longer faster roadcourses.

Its more a Streets/HTM or Big Willow/Buttonwillow relation

The main difference between the two

BIG Willow has more elevation gain and longer straights. Which means its a much faster track.
Buttonwillow is more technical and a little larger.

steve shadows
12-20-2007, 11:01 AM
Yeah... Nittin is KTS. It was very nice and firm, but I was wondering what dampening he had it set at. If it was full soft, it was too firm.

Nikeboy355
12-20-2007, 01:13 PM
So guys Tein Flex or KTS? haha
They are the same... I went with KTS because I support SPL and their awesome customer service...

I like the KTS and don't know enough about suspension to know to switch to 2 way adjustable coilovers yet... When I do they will be KW Variant 3s... I'm kinda considering getting them in the near future...

I run the dampening at 10 front and 8 rear... They are 15 way adjustable...

The instructor said that the suspension setup was good but he thought the spring rate was too high... I told him that the car is 500 pounds lighter and agreed that was why... He said to be careful hitting the burms because he said the car might hop and change direction... Through the esses at full throttle isn't a problem... Going through Riverside I reach 115MPH before braking for Lost Hill which is just as fast as Daryl's S2000...

It's good suspension to learn on and a huge jump from shocks and springs...

So guys Tein Flex or KTS? haha

With that much power and wheel to wheel competition in the near future...niether. We switched from KTS with 10/8kg combo to a Tein Mono Flex 12/9 kg. I'm not recommending the Mono Flex's because we're sponsored by Tein but they actually are a very good setup imo. They also gave us the option of custom valving. :naughty:

I have only attended 1 track event with this car which was at the streets of willow. Even with my flat-spotted tire I managed to run a 1:34.2, I think this is a very good time for a shakedown event. My goal next time at the streets is to break into the 20's. This is one of those set-ups that will continuously evolve, I already have different springs on the way, I plan to go to true r-compound tires, more chasis bracing, ETC.......... My next track event that I plan to attend is the speedventures event at the real willow springs course at the end of january. I hope I see more zilvians at that event though cuz there were pretty much none at the last event I went to.

how are those godspeed swaybars holding up? i have them on my car and noticed a difference, but seeing as I don't push my car I can't really give a fair review on them.

oh and it's great to see so many 240 folk interested in grip racing rather than drift.

Thanks for the heads up on the meet, I will definitely stop by soon. I am also sick of everyone doing nothing but drift with their 240's, I mean look at the action shots thread it is 90% drift pics. People don't seem to realize how potent the s-chasis cars are for grip, although it may just be because of the gay ass "drift craze" that is jacking up 240 prices and causing a lot of dumb asses to go ahead and yank the e-brake and crash into an immovable object of some sort. As far as the sway bars go so far I am happy. I am going to get some custom delrin swaybar to frame bushings made up as godspeed is too cheap to provide urethane ones. Honestly though I am just starting to REALLY set up the car, ask me that question again in a few months and I can give a more definitive answer.

How many of you are going to the drift/grip track day on the 6th? I'm hoping to get my car done for it. It'd be great just to go even if I'm not pushing it or anything. Just to get familiar with the whole experience of driving on the car would be worth the money.

I MAY be able to come for at least Saturday for the open track day with my friends. I wish I could stay the whole weekend as one of my friends might be driving two cars during the event.

HI everyone...

Sorry if its a little off topic. If it bothers anyone let me know, I can always edit ;)
Is everyone interested in a full track day with just the 240 guys?
I can try to get a day at Streets of Willow later this year(I doubt it) or maybe early next year.

I usually organize the drift events, but I think I can setup something for the 240/Z owners on this forum.

It would be kinda cool to do I guess.

I figure I would need about 40 people to get enough people to have exclusive rental for one whole day. Each person will only need to pay $125

No membership fees or anything. If it goes well, we can do more in the future :)

Just got back from a street car TA at Big willow.
Was pretty crazy. lots of P-car's , Z06's, vipers's etc.

Anyway it was my first time on the Big track with the Silvia and it was awesome. so much fun.

Wanted to ask you guys, i'm planning on doing another event, is their a prefrence of Streets or the big track.

I'm a streets fan but i gotta go back to the big track for my next event

=)

The big track is an absolute blast, but the streets is better suited to most of our cars. The on real advantage to the streets is the cost. It should be significantly cheaper to rent, which translates to cheaper entry fees. I would like either one though.

LOL thats how i roll. But I have no idea where they got thoes dyno #'s from. My car has never made that much hp.

we can do weekends but their are far less spots avaiable, and seems easier for most people to do it on a Monday or Friday.

we'll see.
