View Full Version : Wide body build.front fender/headlights issue

This question is for S14 kouki owners that did a front fender(wide fiber glass) conversion!

I am having an issue installing my kouki headlights onto the VIS wide fenders I just installed, I got a new bumper support and still have the bumper retainer from the old parts.
I forgot to check how everything bolts up before taking the headlights out and bumper supports.(very stupid I know)

My question is, does anyone have pics that show where and how the bumper retainer bolts up to??

I know the headlight has the 2 bolts that connect to the fender next to the blinkers, but my new fenders have only a thin strip that i might be able to screw the bolts to, and it seems like it would be too week to support the weight of the headlights.
what have you guys done to fix this issue? and if anyone has pics that shows how the bumper retainer stits and bolts up to the bumper support and fenders, please post!
Ill posi rep you(even if its little) and will greatly appreciate it!

ps:
I had the hood latch and the 2 support brackets cut out 3 years ago when i had the huge intercooler installed!
and these pics are to show the fenders and bumper setup, the bumper support is not installed in these pics!

Get a better fender than VIS?!?! Either that or you streghnten the fender by rebuilding it and adding more fiberglass material around the corner.

you cut out the two pieces that the inside of the headlights connect to. Make a new one.

The two brackets on both sides of the hood latch hold your headlights in place.

You cut them out, so either get a used pair, or make your own.

when you say bumper retainer, do you mean bumper support(8)? or upper retainer(3)?

my advice is to try to get s13 silvia headlight brackets to fit your s14, since all the holes, and proper spacing is there.

I had kind of a similar problem when I put on my origin fenders. If you want everything to line up you may have to make up a custom bracekt to mount the headlights. Ill post pics when I get homee

well for sure you would need this to to hold the headlights and the 2 bolts that connect to the fender next to the blinkers that is the other pcs that also support the headlights..had the same issue and looks so weak I added a flat 3"x1" SHEET OF METAL to make it solid

The headlamp brackets can be purchased from the dealer separately, go get a pair. There's a pin hole in the core support that lines up so they're a no brainer to install, just drill and use nuts/bolts.

The upper retainer bolts to the fenders at each corner, the OE fender had a stud that the retainers sits against. Best bet for you now is to line the retainer up, drill a hole in the forward portion of the fender, then nut/bolt it with large washers to keep from tearing the fiberglass. You'll also have two tabs coming off that bolt to the headlight brackets just below the lights. From there, if you're not running a bumper support, I would add two diagonal brackets from the lower portion of the core support as well.

http://www.360realms.com/S13-S15/Day2/DCP_0426cc700w.jpgyes i mean upper retainer 3, i couldnt figure out where to bolt it to i know it sits on top of the bumper support, but where the hell do the bolts go, there are also 2 smaller brackets sorta "L"
shaped, where do they go? to the end of the retainer?

yes please lets do iiittttttt!

and thanks.Phil,
you da man!, can you try to get me a pic of the bolts on the outside corners of the headlight where it bolts up to the fender?
if possible would be awesome, but in case not your last pic gave me the basic idea of how to attach them!

GabeS14
12-12-2007, 01:05 PM
can anyone tell me where this attaches to?
it goes somewhere on the retainer, but i am not able to figure it out.
also, do i need the retainer to be able to put the front bumper on? if not where did you bolt /ziptie yours
to?
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa39/gabriel_ackley/untitled-1.jpg
i can see there are 2 bolts on top/front of the retainer holding it on, but what about the ends, do they bolt to the fender, if so, from inside the edge or in front?

Those brackets secure the retainer to the reinforcement, not really needed if you're not running a reinforcement, they mainly hold them together to keep from rubbing or making noise.

GabeS14
12-12-2007, 03:37 PM
reinforcement? as in the actual heavy metal bumper right?\
yea i played around with it a little this morning, and voila!
found out, i was gonna delete my post rigt now, bu thanks man!

Sorry Gabe just saw your post. I auctually need some brackets also. Did you pick up the ones on ebay? If you have your old ones you can use them. the brackets for the zenki lights dont match up to both bolts but as seen in philvia's pics you just need one bolt. It will match up with the top one and its a 10 or 12mm. LMK how things are commin a long bro

GabeS14
12-13-2007, 09:52 PM
I was able to get the brackets and retainer in place,
here is a pic of the headlight on just to make sure everythign was in place,
of course the fender and bumper are not secured and headlight is not bolted into fender yet, thats why there are gaps.its just sitting on there.
MIKE will do that stuff. i just got the brackets and mounted it to see if it was in the right place.. tightened or bolted down!
just sitting there!

this is what i was originally looking for.. even though i did buy the regular nissan S14 headlight brakets that Philvia recomended..and cut them in half to still work.. i still need brakets like these..
i did a ghetto "mspaint " drawing.. but the red holes would bolt into the chassis, and the blue long ones would bolt into the headlight bolts..
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa39/gabriel_ackley/Photo-0328-1.jpg
here is an even more ghetto one so you get the idea.. anyone ever do this?
http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa39/gabriel_ackley/Photo-0328.jpg
i have the headlights in.. they just dont line up well with the bumper and corner lights because there is no side bolts to hold them in place..

Coilovers are in the order....next upgrade for sure.. ..as you can see though the title of the thread was headlight wide body/fender fitment.. and that was accomplished..

You need better rims, those just dont look right on a 14 for some reason. Iono, maybe just cuz its high. Itll prolly look better when it gets lower...

It does look weird more cuz its hi...yes..
i do agree though..the froonts are not good offset...i dont like them either..i am on the lookout for deeper..i would love to put the rears on the front and put 11.5's in the rear with like 0 offset..
and yes coils coming in 2 weeks.

how do you like the rear overrrs?

GabeS14
01-08-2009, 08:17 PM
they are ok, not great, i got them from a buddy for a good price though..
so I am happy..
I did do both front and rear wide fenders.. if i could go back i would have kept the front stock fenders, they are nightmares to make look clean when trying to line up the headlight /hood/and bumper.. you will never be happy..
I would say go rear wide fenders and keep the front stock fenders with a good pull/rool if necessary then if you really feel you need the front wider do it then..
an update since i never posted pictures of the final product, after adding the coilovers and spacers and new wing.!
