Any kind of synthetic would be reccomended. Just remember, if you swap from conventional oil, when the synthetic mixes with the little bit of old oil in the pan, the viscosities are different and will 'knock' the old oil loose and could potential clog up your oil pump pickup.

Solution: when you switch oil viscosities/synthetic, with the oil plug still out, take some of the oil and pour it through the valve cover and down the engine, it will flush the junk out and make a cleaner new oil mix in your engine.

Just a scientific approach to something as easy as changing oil.

sounds damn tasty. Personally, if i got an sr, id take the time to rebuild it, or at the very least, rering it. clean it all out good, and then run full synthetic. go the whole 9 yards. Thats what im doing with my KA. thats just me though...

So much stupidity in this thread.

Just use any kind of 5w-30 or 10w-30. If you use dino aka nonsynthetic, just go with Pennzoil or Castrol GTX.

If you want to go full synthetic, avoid mobil 1. Expensive, and not truly synthetic. Amsoil and Motul have goooooood oil analysis results for a lot of Nissan motors

Depends on weather conditions & how hard you're running your car.

Regular driving 5w-30 or 10w-30.

If you want a slightly thicker oil for when you're pushing your car at higher RPMs, then 5w-40 or 10w-40.

For colder weather, go for the lower number in the front. 5w-40 and 10w-40 have the same thickness at operating temp (something like 100*C), but the first number represents cold cranking viscosity when the motor is cold (a lower number flows better to your top end).

If you want a really good all around oil that you can get from the store, look for 0w-30 Castrol Syntec, AKA German Castrol. At temperature, the 30 weight is closer to a 40 weight, and the oil itself is very good.

I use GR1 50W Race oil in mine and we use it in the race cars, they seem to love it. Holds temp and press very well, and its $2.75qt.

i've been using motul or royal purple for years with excellent results. mobil 1 used to be fully synthetic, but is now made from a non-synthetic base, so its not fully synthetic. thats why mbz no longer recommends it for their cars, they now recommend elf.
