Take the rad cap off and run the engine up to 2500 or so. If you see bubbles then it is most likely coming from the headgasket.
Remove all spark plugs. If they seem abnormally clean it is most likely coming from the steam created from the pressance of water (coolant) during combustion. It there is a heagasket leak between cylinders it will be b/w the two clean plugs.
Warm the engine up and pressure test the coolant system with the plugs out. If the pressure drops and you dont see any external leaks then look into the cylinders and you may see the coolant pooling on top of the piston.

Check where the head connects to the block see if its leaking, water in the oil, over heating, steam from the motor and exhaust burn off.
