Hey, a buddy of mine has KSport coilovers on his S13 and he wants softer springs. Right now he has 7k/6k, but he lives in an area with bad roads so he's looking for a rally-type of suspension.

The springs he has are 180mm tall and 80mm diameter front and back are the same. (According to him.)

Where could he get some softer springs for his coilovers?

Also, the problem he has is that the rear left tire always loses traction and he believes it's cause by springs that are to hard for the road condition. All his bushings were changed to Energy Suspension and he has an open-diff, any ideas? Thanks!!

an lsd would get rid of alot of the traction loss, btw the rear left wheel will always lose traction first, it is the main drive wheel

If the spring perches are adjustable (common on coilovers), your buddy might try less spring preload. This will "free up" the spring somewhat to move better over bumps and not feel so harsh. Adjust dampening to suit..
cheers!

I hate to tell you, but you probably over paid if you went with that vendor. Even though they may be the west coast master distributor for swift, there is a reason why other companies in the west coast go directly through swift.

I am running 9/7 swift springs on my coilovers and they are awesome springs.
How did you friend measure them? Swift uses inside diameter. They make 60mm to 70mm. http://www.swiftsprings.com/

I got my set from NINJAS14. He has the best possible price.

+1 for swift. Ive driven two s-14's with zeal function x's jungs car and
steves14. Id definetly felt the difference in jungs car with the swift spring replacements. Super smooth very linear, car almost felt like it was being sucked to the road, also with swift springs on stock s13 shocks even tho they felt softer than the stock spring you can feel how smooth the springs were no bouncing around almost letting the shocks do their job better.
Hit up jung he has a good connection on swift springs.

I don't think they're JDM enough for people. Too bad they're a lot cheaper than swift springs, proven on both the track and on a spring rater.

I don't know what you guys expect to get out of springs though, it seems that most people don't realize what a spring actually does. You will see improvements going from a crappy spring to a good spring, but I'm not sure where swift falls in for that range. I mean I'm sure they're better than what come with most coilovers, but why pay so much when you can get better springs for less.

Well with Ksport you can get custom spring rates. Why not just order a second set of springs from them?

All I can say is that I did notice a difference in the springs as kndacomplex mentioned. I know that zeal used to use swift and there are many top coilover manufacturers that use swift springs. Also, i looked at the price of hyper coils and I did pay less then their posted price.

Well if you felt a difference because of a spring change. Then either the rates that were on there were different than the rates you put on or the springs on there were total crap.

I'm not saying that swift's are bad springs, I'm just saying I've never seen any proof that they're good springs. And with better springs, or at least proven springs, available in the states, why spend more and get JDM springs?

And if you're comparing what you paid to MSRP, you have to realize that's not a fair comparison. I mean who pays MSRP.

^ I did bump up my springs rate from 8/6 to 9/7. That probably had a lot to do with it. The swift feels really good. It is not harsh like some springs but it feels firm yet smooth. I am comparing this to my limited experience. I know that you are part of a race team so you have much more experience in this field.

I don't know anyone that sells hyper coil springs so msrp was the price I compared it to. I will agree that not many people pay msrp unless they do not know any better.

How would you test springs in order to find out if they are good?
