People are mentioning getting the sr20det engine INSTALLED for $4200.  Where?!?  Also, black top is good, but isn't the s-15 engine better? 250hp with vvtc, but the engine itself costs more than the $4200 that others are getting sr20dets installed for.
HELP ME!!!
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Heavythrottle.com can give you a price for engine and install, Ebay and thepartstrader.com are also places to find the engine but you would have to find a place to do the install. If your from northern california, modacar MAY be able to find you an engine but they told me that they could do the install if i already had the engine. Hope that info helps some. Oh and as far as the 4200... well for a red top with all the things that you would need for a complete install plus installation, i guess, but i dont think you can get the s14 blacktop for that price. I might be wrong though...

If you plan on going over 300rwhp I think that it would be more cost effective in the end to shell out the extra money on the s15.  The internals are stronger and the turbo is a little bit larger.  The engine should be good to 300+rwhp on stock internals and turbo so long as the fuel system is properly modified iirc.

hey Jeff240sx,

the S14 SR20 also has VVTC, or so i've heard/read sumwhere on the Net.
it packs 220hp i think, and it's not that far off from S15's SR20.
but like Logo said, if you plan on going over 300rwhp, then you might as well shell out that extra money for the S15's engine.
it'll prolly be WAY more beneficial in the end, less worries since it's fairly newer than the other SR20s....
but what am i talking about, i don't even know that much about cars. (or so my friend told me)

im confused...there are different engines of sr for s14 and s15? i always thought a sr would fit in any s13,s14, and s15.  Also...isn't the sr is the s15's engine?

teh srdet20's are allt eh same engines except for small spec added such as vvtc and larger turbos. Thants why if you are gonna soup up an engien u tekt eh s13's version. which is less horespower but in the long run after putting in parts and stuff itl be faster. Its jsut a different hp in each s's cars.

S13 Sr20 = 200hp T25 turbo
S14 Sr20 = 220hp w/vvt, T25 Ball Bearing Turbo
S15 Sr20 = 250hp w/vvt, T28 Ball Bearing Turbo, 440cc fuel injectors.

Jay, where are you in the Bay Area? I live close, in Tracy, it's near Stockton. I'm also going for the SR swap. There's a guy in Daly City who has an S15 engine and 6-speed tranny I'm meeting up with on Friday. Wanna come with? Email me: [email protected]

If it helps... many claim that the S13 engine is the best to build b/c it lacks VVT.  The logic is, they bettered the turbo and but maintained the same torque and only slightly increased hp.  I've heard this is due to reworking the head on the S14 for emissions.  As a result of the rework, VVT was added to maintain torque and bigger hairdryer for power.  The other thing is that some claim the VVT is just another gizmo to break when you are building serious power.  Flip side is that S14 will likely have less wear and comes with a better turbo out of the box.  If I were looking to make serious power (over 300 whp), I would go S13, rebuild it, and add a bigger turbo (which you would have to do w/ S14 too).  S15 is another story - turbo may be able to support 300 whp and the engine would be low use, BUT it would be more costly than an S13 after rebuild and upgrade AND it comes with the notoriously fragile S15 6 speed.  IMO, a built S13 is the way to go.  $0.02

the difference isnt just the turbos.  the transmission is way different.  remember, parts availability is also an issue.  there arent that many s15s out there

I would also like to add that I have heard that the s15 tranny is also weaker then teh s14 tranny. So if you are looking for some serious power you may want to look at the s14. This is what I have heard. Since you guys are out in cali. you may want to talk to Non Fujita he owns this car

with this motor a s14
http://www.enonvativforce.com/Picutures/non_engine01.bmp

from what I have heard this s14 motor is fully build by Tomei he is beating vipers and daily driven. You don't have to go all out like him but I am sure he could give you some good ideas of what you may want to do. Here is his web site Enonvativ Force (http://www.enonvativforce.com)

Hey Jeff, Unstable Hybrids in Atlanta does the install for $4200. But from what I understand, they are doing a special for $4k even. This is for a red top S13 SR20. The link is: http://www.unstable-hybrids.com/srinstallspecial.html
If i can't find one over here(i'm in okinawa) then I'm going to get one from them, since Atlanta is only 2.5 hours away from where I'm from.

All SR's can handle up to 450hp before they need the bottom end reworked. Yes, there are some things that need to be changed to get above 300hp. Like, Turbo, manifold, Intake system, injectors, Intercooler, Head gasket, Head studs, Valves guides and springs, ECU, and fuel system.

To go above 450hp you will need to work the crank, rods, disconect the VVT, and redo the block. We are currently working on a 2.2 kit for our drag car.

I supply lots of parts and motors for other shops around the U.S.. So if you need anything let me know.

S13 SR20DET is our favorite selection for the money. S14/S15 motor are good in terms of newness, and update technology.

Otherwise for max power, S13 SR20DET is the best platform to start with, most parts available in the states, and simple in design.

Tx.
